Color reproduction is not great, though. The average DeltaE of 5.8 is decent, but there is a pronounced blue cast to white and gray. Other than that, out of the primaries, green is off the most (DeltaE around 10), and cyan is far from the truth as well.
Sunlight legibility, on the other hand is superb. High quality LCD displays have been getting near AMOLEDs in this respect, even if they can't quite match the best of them. The Xperia XZ is on par with the iPhone 6s, and a little short of the iPhone 7 in contrast under direct light, but the LG G5 and especially the HTC 10 are far behind.

Shadow Snypa786, 12 Jan 2017Pentile rubbish??
Go read the Samsung S3, Note 3, S4, Note 4, S5, S6 and S7 display section... more1. GSMArena is an OLED fan-based, just by looking at their phone reviews. They were even disappointed to see the iPhone 7 & 7 Plus having only LCD display. What do you expect? The most overhyped crap, even if crap, would stil be the choice.
2. It's Samsung's fault for not using OLEDs correctly. OLEDs are obviously better than LCD, but Samsung failed to make use of that superiority of technology. Even their S7 Edge's display looked worse than Sony's 2015 Z5 Premium 4K display. Pentile is totally rubbish because it only has one sub-pixel whereas LCDs have 2. For a 2K display, the S7 Edge is one of the worst. Why? About normal human eyeview and you can easily see the individual pixels of the display, and that's what people say "the best?" How pathetic. I wish people knew more about technology than this. Sony's superior image enhancement is clearly better than Samsung or any other competitor, and their TV division proves it a lot
NINJA1, 12 Jan 2017so its of no use buying sony this year as it might have an LCD displayBy that logic, people should only be buying Samsung phones because only most of their devices have AMOLED screens (which are crap compared to LCD in terms of resolution and color accuracy)
Anonymous, 12 Jan 2017bla bla bla sony always late.Who is the first non-Google OEM to release 7.1.1 (not 7.0) update to their phones? Oh sorry I forgot, Samsung won't even bother releasing it this week, so who's the late now?

Its gotta be rhe way forward. The lcd on my V20 is nlfine but not a patch on the amoled that my previous note 4 had.
Xperia phones remain unchanged since Xperia Z. Except the XZ, I honestly can't tell all this Xperia Z's apart. They all look the same and have the same features.

It is business here so an estimation and control when the display burns out is tremendously valuable, that is why all phone and TV manufacturer will move on OLED, making you in the end buy a new phone and TV every two years.

Plus there new innovations will leads the market tech.
I will prefer lcd over oleds if and only if they can offer infinite contrast like oleds.... And that looks nearly impossible due to the core technology of lcd panels... Which is back lighting....!

You can't just have the best display straight away, LCD and AMOLED screens improved over years. Amoleds have been fine for years just read Note 4s review
"The Samsung AMOLED panels have been improving at a great pace with each new generation and this latest effort is further proof of that. Giving you a choice between saturation and accuracy, and comfortably beating its rivals at either end is an impressive achievement, but with the inherent AMOLED strengths in the equation, you get arguably the most impressive screen in the market"

GSMarena always said they were the best displays on the market.
1st all LCD fans said LCD was better than AMOLED with burn in and now Apple and Sony are finally switching to AMOLED and all LCD fans best excuse you can come out with is Samsung use an inferior tech but when Sony and Apple will use they will use better??
Better tech than the company that produces more of them than anyone else on the planet?? The company has been pushing them out for the last 4-5 years they have more experience with those screens on mobile devices for years than anyone.
