The screen technology that allows this is more expensive, increasing the price.
Lex79, 12 Mar 2017Perhaps not but what difference does that make? You might as well say that neither is it Samsu... morePerhaps Sony announced it early so that they have a higher chance of stealing the people's attention since Samsung isn't there to introduce the S8 and S8+. Even Qualcomm themselves confirm that the XZ Premium is the first commercial SnapDragon 835-powered handset: https://www.qualcomm.com/news/snapdragon/2017/02/27/powered-snapdragon-835-sony-xperia-xz-premium-reaches-gigabit-speeds
which means it could be released earlier than the S8 and S8+. Sony's claim of "late spring" is maybe just for these sellers, but the device could be released worldwide earlier, and it must be part of Sony's partnership with more carriers worldwide to market their phones more. And Sony isn't relatively late when releasing phones. The XZ took only a month after announcement before being officially released

When I say charged, I don't mean a fee. I mean a legal complaint... Lawsuit, ya know?
Samsung produce the SD835 under license from Qualcomm. Qualcomm sells the chipset, not Samsung. Samsung has to buy them from QC just like everyone else. So for the 3rd-party manufacturer to only supply the product it makes on behalf of someone else, to its own divisions in order to get a jump on the market... Well that really seems like anti-competitive tactics to me.
Now, whether --Sony-- and the XZP are affected by this is a whole other story, and their previous announce/release schedule habit does cast at least some reasonable doubt on that.

See? I really don't get your point. How in this planet would the bezel size make a phone more expensive? Being able to pack a large screen into a small body makes a phone more expensive? By that means, the G6 should actually cost more than the G5 during launch. No, the G5 was actually more expensive than the G6, but let's forget it since they're totally on different years and are competing against different competitors (G5 for 2016 flagships and G6 for 2017 flagships). But with the same logic, Sony's Xperia XA1 and XA1 Ultra should cost more than the A 2017 series since both are offering higher screen-to-body ratio than the A 2017 family. I want to make myself clear, I'm not against your statement, but it's just confusing me on why making the phone smaller with bigger screen makes it more expensive. Besides, designing the internals of a high STB Ratio phone isn't gonna break a leg to do, but hey, it's still up to the manufacturer on how much they would cost the customers for the product.
This price is better than Samsung galaxy s8 rumoured price(799£)

Bezeless design costs nothing more than bezel design
But S8, using so much of inhouse made components, especially with cheaper camera sensors....shouldnt cost that much IMO.
Anonymous, 12 Mar 2017Well Samsung is gonna be first to launch in market with 835 so he is kinda bit correct I think the Samsung should show how large is the battery room at first, because the tiny bezel wipe off a lot of space and they could have more aggressive on the cabined designs with flaws!
All of you forgot the Sony make the latest camera sensor 3layers stacked large pixels sensor for it latest flagships, but all the competitors's flagships will still use the older camera sensor, because the older version is more cheaper, the competitors won't buy the latest Sony sensor because it is so new and still expensive on market price, but only Xperia benefit from the exclusive direct from it own company.

Got news for you they don't, I've always said Apple's products are over priced, but there is some benefits you get paying for that price, better & and longer software support, better and more accessible customer support, higher resale value to name but a few.
This is not me defending apple's (frankly greedy) pricing policy, but my saying things are not quite as simple as your post would have us believe.

Someone Else, 12 Mar 2017Lol. You're dull. I never mention Apple in my comment.Come on... Dude get my point, pls. If U can't then you're the dull one.
My point is,
1. Iphones are also very expensive.
2 .They also have large bezels
So your point of slimmers bezels should mean more expensive phones is invalid.
More over, as iphones are this expensive, how much more do you think they will cost when they finally make a bezel as thin as LG G6.(According to Your logic)
Pls Sir, get my point.
JordanBaby, 12 Mar 2017It's not Sony's fault that Samsung hoards the SD835 hence they can't release it before the S8 ... morePerhaps not but what difference does that make? You might as well say that neither is it Samsung's fault that Sony have decided to announce way too early.
My point stands, there needs to be as a short a time difference as possible between public announcement and market availability, as in the android (where there's always something else just around the corner) capitalising on hype & buzz is very important.

I never said that the near bezel-less design smartphone will make manufacturers charge the phone more expensive. That's purely the manufacturer's decision. If they do increase the price, we can assume that the near bezel-less design is one of the main contribution for the high price and they want to maintain the profits for each device sold.
When I said a near bezel-less design, I didn't meant the Xperia XA Ultra or the Galaxy A 2017 .What I meant was the LG G6 and the upcoming Galaxy S8 that also decreases the top and bottom bezels as well as the sides.

Sony did the same with the Z5 Premium, announce it to early and make fans wait, as a result I have yet to see a single Z5P in the wild here in the UK.
If your going to announce at MWC, then you want the product on the shelves no later than April, any longer and your shooting yourself in the foot, Sony are slow to pick up on this point it would seem. They would have been better served just announcing what products they could move quickly (the XA1 for instance) and teasing the XZP for announcement closer to an actual shipping schedule.
Love or hate them, Apple get this right with the iPhone, they hold the announcement keynote, then the devices start shipping 2-3 weeks later, in short they capitalise on the hype.
Samsung are now going to both announce and ship the S8 before the XZP becomes available, only the most die hard Sony fans are going to wait for the P....and they are going to be vastly outnumbered by those that might have considered it but will instead see the S8 is available and just go for that.
Someone Else, 12 Mar 2017It's easy to forget just how much of a marvel of engineering modern smartphones are, especiall... moreWell, again I really dont get it....
Whats exactly more expensive?
Different motherboard design?
Every new phone has some diferent motherboard design.
All those bezeless phones have different from prior bezel designs is narrower bigger screen put onto same enginnering (motherboard, front camera, back camera, fp button, usb, speaker placement, 3.5 jack, antenna, wireless charging, battery) solutions behind, in a same designed frame but with smaller bezels.
I really dont see the reason for extra price, except marketing.
You get only bigger screen to body ratio.....and you pay 100€ more for that.
But production costs and components dont cost more. Dont see how they could.
Someone Else, 12 Mar 2017Well, if you really think that producing a near bezel-less design smartphone doesn't increase ... moreI myself don't get it either. Google should've had bezel less design for the price of the Pixel and Pixel XL. To attain a bezel less look is to put a different design component inside, but I never knew engineering actually comes for a cost already. Mid rangers like Xperia XA and XA Ultra, as well as some Galaxy A 2017 have near bezel less design and they are still priced as mid rangers. Making a bezel less phone is a matter of company's decision, not manufacturing limitation. For instance, the XZ Premium is only impossible to be bezel less because all flagship phone hardware components are there and needs some bezels to be stored in, but its cost of manufacturing never changes
