Anonymous, 22 Mar 2017Yeah, but unlike opposing fans, we actually have real tests that show the truth. What team is ... moreBut evidence (as in numbers) can be interpreted in a million different ways. It's just human nature. For example, one could say: "chip A is better than chip B" based on benchmark 1. Other could say: "but benchmark 1 was rigged to look like chip A is better than chip B". And other could say: "chip B is better than chip A because of benchmark 2", and the first one could argue that benchmark 2 is unreliable, and so on.
So, this is no different to a discussion about if a penalty was legit or not.
jesse.clark, 22 Mar 2017Exynos 9 has the best gpuYeah yeah I hear you fanboy
But we both know android is just pathetic how
often they stutter and framerate being very inconsistent
Compare to iPhone while gaming
Then you fanboy will say it's due to resolution even though
the same thing is happening on pixel (small) and one plus 3t
While iPhone 6s Plus is having no problem running it even
Stop with your nonsense I'm not just bashing android
I truly want Qualcomm / Samsung catching up iPhone like they did with
CPU side (you can say they surpassed it)
AMR M., 22 Mar 2017It's just a rebranded 960 with more gpu cores that's all so it will cancel out the difference ... moreHardly.
The kirin is a just stock arm ip.
The snapdragon is using a modified arm core (anandtech believes it to be an a73 due to l1/l2 timings and fp perf), but is otherwise Qualcomm ip.

Paul60, 22 Mar 2017This article contains more evidence that Pixel XL is an ugly, overpriced mid-ranger.With the best camera, user experience, update policy of any Android device.
ZloiYuri, 22 Mar 2017But most of all I wait power consumption testsSee my AT links
On a fixed AR (or maybe VR...i don't recall which), there was and a rough 1W diff between the 820 and 835 (~4.5 -> 3.5).
Details are at anandtech
Anonymous, 22 Mar 2017Yeah the snapdragon finally caught up in cpu. The headline is exaggerated. However the gpu cou... moreBtw, my expectation is that the 8895 and 835 will perform very similar. The differences will come from the uncore (signal processing, memory controller, codec/dac quality, etc).
Mirkran, 22 Mar 2017I always spend a good time reading comments in posts like this. "SD is better". "No, Apple is ... moreYeah, but unlike opposing fans, we actually have real tests that show the truth. What team is better is a subjective fact since the rules of a game are arbitrary, information processing is not arbitrary, it's a hard Natural parameter and some architectures are better than others.
Qualcomm has been relatively stagnant for years allowing Apple to become the faster architecture. It didn't use to be the case. But that's what monopolies do to you (ever since Qualcomm became a semi monopoly in the west it pretty much destroyed its standards).
Surficial, 22 Mar 2017Nicely answered thanks.
I know android supports x86 as my old razr i ran like any other arm a... moreIt's not a good answer. That guy does not follow what happens in the industry. There is ARM linux for years (for example: https://www.ubuntu.com/download/server/arm ), like the one I'm running in my nVidia Shield console.
And Microsoft is transitioning too. Both in the back end: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/03/09/microsoft_arm_server_followup/
And the front end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_GlGglbu1U
Probably Apple too is readying herself for the transition, but being Apple they keep it more "hash-hash". The per watt and per $ benefits of ARM architecture (at this point) is off the charts. X86 processors has hit a wall almost a decade ago and now ARM is catching up in all fronts. By mid 2020s it would suicide to build a new server farm using x86...
J o m s, 22 Mar 2017It will never be. Even my 5 year old AMD Trinity is still superior than A10.
You have to put ... moreAgain, what are you talking about? I'm running Linux on my nVidia Shield Console and it already runs a lot better than any late 00s laptop at a fraction of the cost. Imagine what an A10 that is at least twice as fast would do.
It's already happening, you better believe it: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/03/09/microsoft_arm_server_followup/
And if Apple was to open source A10 it would be the most popular chip to use because it's faster in REAL WORLD tests (what part of video encoding, emulation and physics tests don't you understand?)
Geekbench 4 merely shows what *actually* happens. IE Apple A10 being the fastest ARM SoC out there right now in both single core and multi-core (unless you have high parallelization)...

I know android supports x86 as my old razr i ran like any other arm android phone, could be interesting to have android devices with x86 + arm big.littles that also have the capability to natively run x86 os's.
Robert, 22 Mar 2017And where are we now in comparison with Intels i3, i5 or i7? You can't compare an ARM based chip with a x86 one. They are very different instruction sets. x86 is more complicated than ARM so a mobile chip can't handle x86 instructions.
I always spend a good time reading comments in posts like this. "SD is better". "No, Apple is better". They sound just like opposing fans in a soccer match.
That being said, users should buy phones which grant them the best usability and user experience, not to brag about having a performance champion in their pockets.
I dont care about how good the CPU in apple in single core performance is.
why would anyone use a device which lacks so many functionality compared to other phones and OS.
some of us by phones for their capabilities and rich functionality not for tacky fruit labels.
dont care... we all know the cpu is fast even SD820 was / is still amazing
do something about your piss poor GPU... I mean how long do I have to wait
to pick android for playing high-end games over iPhone?

Also arm cores cou... moreApple A10 Fusion SOC is an dangerous enemy of the Intel Core M SOCs in terms of raw performance, but the software is the problem... It needs emulation to run OS X with its apps and emulation would have a considerable performance penalty in heavy tasks and power efficiency overall.

Apple devices will have an edge in GPU performance over Android flagships which use 1440p displays, 3.7MP(more than 3x the resolution of 7, and nearly 2x the one of 7 Plus)...and Apple A11 will come in October, in about 7 months, with much improved performance.
