''The most likely scenario which we can come up with is that the Japanese titan is still under some contractual obligation that prevents it from selling smartphones with fingerprint readers in the US because they've offered the fingerprint sensor as a carrier-exclusive feature to some unnamed carrier.''
and guess who that unnamed carrier could be http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_x...z4v-7296.php
I agree that is a crucial feature now and that SONY should deal with it somehow , but maybe they are just waiting for an agreement to expire ...

The brand doesn't matter, all it matters that the bezels are kept within reasonable levels. Sony doesn't really do that, the bottom and top ones are as ridiculous as any other phone with similar bezels.

I loved Sony Ericsson phones before. Their CyberShot line was superb! But now Sony is so bland. Not changing phone design for a decade now. Sad story. Will release 3 versions of technically the same piece of crap only with different insides. Their models are confusing they are all essentially the same they look the same X X Performance XA XA Plus XA1 XA1 Plus XZ XZS XZ Premium OH GOD STOP

No way you can fit a 12 or 6mp front cam there.
People who are complaining of Bezels, most of the phones now comes with a big button in the front. . the bezels are mostly identical to any other smart phones - except Samsung Galaxy s8 of course where they have aggressively reduced the bezels at the cost of moving the fingerprint sensor to a inconvenient position.
only difference is Sony has moved the fingerprint sensor to right and put a a stereo speakers in place of that.
It is a great design choice.. it does not disturb the design.
Still using Xperia Z since 2013. I have no issues with the software. No cracked display. The only issue would be the one regarding the caps that protect the 3.5mm jack and the USB port. But after the Z2 the caps issue was solved.
This is the most durable phone I have ever had. And I dropped it a lot.
Sony's build quality is 10+ and the software optimization is beyond incredible. I've rooted the phone and deleted a lot of system files. Never had a bootloop or an error.
Considering this is a 4 year old phone and still using it every day a LOT, I fully recommend Sony phones. How many people have you seen still using the S3 which was the rival for the Z?
As for software updates, the Z runs on LP 5.1.1 while the S3 is still on KK 4.3!
Sony is the best!
Niall, 07 May 2017You are right though. All the other companies including chinese phones will bring out phones... moreListen, listen my friend and the one before (or/and everyone who will read this). Maybe I'm slightly different from the majority of people on the site that mainly consists of fans that they post their thoughts, etc, on this site, the GSMArena (that it is my favorite site, side note). Here you find fans of all the brands, as an example, who sides with a brand, let's say Samsung, and who sides with another, let's say Apple, that I think they are the 2 main brands with the most fans, although as I said, all brands have their own fans, so Sony too (& because it seems that here (comments on this article) the majority are Sony's fans). But having said that, my friend, I'm not one of these or those in majority, and so a fan of a particular brand or another, like that guy of before, that his nickname is "KingXperia" so it is 100% evident that he is a Sony's fan, but I'm not like those, in fact my nickname is "techlover", and what I mean by that is that I'm not a fan of a particular brand or another, but that I'm a fan of all the holistic progressive technology. So by that it means that I don't side with a brand just because I'm its fan, but I just side with which brand that in the moment offers the most innovativity, versatility and so evolutionary, etc, technology. So it can be a brand but then it can be another as well, and so what I say in all the articles opinion comments, it is not based on bias regressiveness, but just the simple truth based on who/which brand is evolving the most in positive the technology, in this case mobile/smartphone technology. And directly regarding your point that with so (Sony's big bezels) "Sony will be the unique of the bunch", if positive uniqueness or negative uniqueness is originality, and one's cares only about that uniqueness, no matter what, is subjective, and so everyone do what they want. But in my case, because I always side only with which brand is evolving in progression and not in regression the general technology, I definitely don't agree with huge bezels, and this is not a bias opinion, because it applies to all no matter which brand, fans and not fans, etc, but as a part of evolutional progressive technology, gradually they must be reduced. Hopefully this will make something more understandable, between a personal bias opinion, preference, and a progressive evolution of technology, and something about my views in the comments of the different articles.
