cannot upgrade it...u need to root it to upgrade...
otherwise u will b struck wid android 2.1 update1...
there is no official upgrade available for w8...
and in future also, there will be none...

I tried rooting this phone and installed Android 2.3.7 but some features are not supported by the w8. I used sony ericsson software update to restore my phone's OS 'cause I forgot to backup the 2.1 OS using the Xrecovery. Well, I found out that SOny Ericsson w8 is only suited on its Original OS 'cause I experienced too many problems in Android 2.3.7 which can be found in this site: http://forum.xda-developers.co...hp?t=1425240 . Yeah, I know that there are too many available custom rom for w8 or x8 but some applications are not applicable to your phone. Now, I'm using its original OS. So, I recommend that just stick to its own OS or you'll experienced some problems that could ruin your phone. I love Sony!

Though there are superior mobiles in the same range that of w8 but none can compete with streamlined body and stylish look of w8.

Bought this one month ago.Its good phone but doesn't have latest android.SE is providing android 2.3 to all Xperia Series but not w8 and x8.I would request SE to provide update for w8.As this phone lack some features,peolpe who have w8 can try ZOOM FX to zoom in camera,POWER AMP for equlzr and android assistant for support features.
If anyone updated w8 to android 2.2 or 2.3.5 pls forward ur reply.
