1 Indians can afford s8 and iphones and u11s which cost twice the price of most of phones you mentioned but can't afford ZTE and stuff..... Good genius
2 ever heard of one plus? Why would bbk release x series by vivo when op5 is so successful. There's an article of first post related to that. Brands self cannibalization is unnecessary since it's model is already successful in India
3 mi5 was flop due to perception of company as one selling cheap phones plus having 25% markup on Chinese price was unnecessary
4 ZTE will release z17 like it did with z11 and other phones mark my words
Well sure it's a great news for the consumers but what no one else will comprehend is the effect of such moves from such a company (one that owns multiple businesses , has blessings from the State and tons and tons of surplus) would have on the telecom sector itself. The telecom sector in India for the employees is left with little or no hope after move such as this by Reliance. It is putting their surplus cash , giving people free phones and services and basically killing the competition. This has caused massive effect on other companies and their employee base .Employees ( majority of the workforce which are Engineers) were already dealing with non-existent increments and now companies have stopped hiring and started firing their employees. What happened with 3G in India was unfortunate, to say the least. While countries in South-America are planning their 5th WCDMA carrier, India carries on with single carrier till date; reason... non-existent traffic. This solely happened due to greed of telcos back in time of the auction, trying to demean others and in hunger of getting the most of spectrum , they ended up paying loads of it. What followed was huge prices for the services and ultimately it failed among the masses and people kept sticking to their 2G for most part of the usage. And now company like Reliance is going to seal the fate of many by making such a move and handling everyone free this- free that. May the Indian telcos RIP !!
Great. If it was available unlocked. Id be tempted to get it as a second phone in Canada
Without commenting regarding the phone per se, because it is what it is. But as a whole package, definitely it's a good news for the Indian market (customers).
Nashmad, 21 Jul 2017To all networks! Has been free for nearly 10 months!Thanx mate :)
pramod5774, 21 Jul 2017Is it a feature phone or Android based smartphone. Coz feature phones like these can be bought... moreit is a smart-feature phone lol.. it runs on Kai OS .. and has some apps like jio cinema , Jio tv to watch tv shows and movies ..and has an app store ..
all those feature phones that you are talking about are mostly 2g or maybe some 3g feature phones ..
this is the cheapest 4g VOLTE phone at Rs 1500.. JIO network is 4g exclusive .. if you have a 2g/3g phone you will have to spend 350 Rs per month for unlimited calls ( to all networks ) on other operators .. if you have Jio phone you will only have to spend 150 Rs per month for unlimited calls and superior voice quality ..
IronHeart8, 21 Jul 2017Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Moto and Xiaomi are leading here, which year are you talking about lol2017. And if it's branded, it's not even flagship. Notice how not even true flagships are released here like Xiaomi Mi Note 2, Xiaomi Mi Mix, Asus Zenfone AR, vivo Xplay6, ZTE nubia Z17 (which one of my friends bought in the filippines on his vacation and it was a beast with SD835 and 8GB RAM). If we do we get only mediocre flagships. Ever seen Vivo's Xplay series here in 3rd world india? Nah. Even former Xiaomi vice president Hugo Barra said they won't release real flagsihps (by the time, Mi Note 2, Mi Mix) and only released the Mi 5 since most indians can't afford the price and they'll just lose money by releasing it here. Same goes for apple. As you mentioned only those brands, notice how one fruit is missing?

kevin97, 21 Jul 2017Why do you need 4G for a feature phone ? It's stupid.Jio has only 4g network across inda
And it has more than 150 million subscribers
Ambani planned to reach every corner of india so they launched this phone for the who can't afford a 4g volte smartphone
Since it's almost free ambani decided every India n use it
It's for mass as India people don't mind to keep two-three phones in pocket, however I wish Jio should have announced multiple phones, people don't mind to pay little more for touch screen, better processor, camera, screen and RAM. Remember ultimately people going to get good experience with better specs. Having expressed my thoughts I have zero doubt on Mukesh Ambani's business model, I am sure high end models will introduce soon. Good Luck.
johnnkennedy, 21 Jul 2017Calls free means reliance to reliance, or reliance to other's network also???To all networks across india

pffft. i'd rather use my smartphone with legit advantages and pay for service. Well, it's for the masses here anyways. And the masses here are poor and either don't even own a smartphone or own a branded smartphone, just cheap rebranded china phones like micromax, xolo, lava, karbonn etc.
