The most uninteresting phone of the year, if it weren't for the iOS that it has, no one would giving a flying f**k about this.
First gsmarena says "the diagonal is equivalent to that of a 5.56” screen."
And after "Against the bigger 8 Plus, you lose about 5%"
So 5.56" is smaller than 5.5" by 5%??
God this guys dont know math
The side bezels of the iPhone x is still the same thinckness making not really edge to edge as claimed, it would be much better if the whole rectangular frame is sliming down a little more.
Kangal, 14 Sep 2017Here's the measurements/comparison for your convenience:
16:9, 1334 x 750... moreBtw in the apple website it states that: "The iPhone X display has rounded corners that follow a beautiful curved design, and these corners are within a standard rectangle. When measured as a standard rectangular shape, the screen is 5.85 inches diagonally (actual viewable area is less)."
5.85 inches! so 5.8 inches is rounded edge to rounded edge?
Here's the measurements/comparison for your convenience:
16:9, 1334 x 750, 325.6ppi, Diagonal 4.7in/11.94cm
Display Area: 10.41cm × 5.85cm = 60.88cm²
Screen to Bezel Ratio: 65.4%
Top, Bottom, Left, Right Bezels: 17.1, 17.3, 4.4, 4.4 mm
iPhone 6+/6S+/7+/8 Plus:
16:9, 1920 x 1080, 400.5ppi, Diagonal 5.5in/13.97cm
Display Area: 12.18cm × 6.85cm = 83.39cm²
Screen to Bezel Ratio: 67.8%
Top, Bottom, Left, Right Bezels: 18.2, 18.4, 4.8, 4.8 mm
*20:9, 2436 x 1125, 462.6ppi, Diagonal 5.8in/14.73cm
Display Area: 13.37cm × 6.18cm = *82.61cm²
Screen to Bezel Ratio: *82.9%
Top, Bottom, Left, Right Bezels: 5.3, 4.7, 4.6, 4.6 mm
*imperfect screen, cut out for Facial and corners, loses display area and pixel count
In short you get bezeless screen with bezeles and no, it is not better looked than s8 or s8 plus
Wow! So I don't particularly like the iPhone (Android user since the original Nexus One), but why raise this discussion about the iPhone X when it was never an issue with the S8 or G6?
I prefer 16x9 screens (up to about 5.3") since they provide wider screens where I can still reach all the corners of the screen without resorting to two-handed operation. Loved the look of the Nexus 6P screen, but hated using it on a daily basis. The S8 and G6 unforturtunately fall into the same trap with a screen that's simply too high for it's own good...
Anonymous, 14 Sep 2017Once you start playing games like excluding the top of the iPhone X display which can only be ... moreI think , the point of Article was that because of cutout you can't use all the screen when viewing videos, playing games, etc on iPhone XXX.
You can use all the screen on S8, though.
Apple has a lot of margin of benefit to blame Samsung or other about the display price. I still prefer more traditional display maximizating the dimensions and bezeless with a robust frame but more integrated not like the iPhone X. At least is a step or a try but It looks like something with horns. A goat? Or something else, uni brow with horns like people call it now. They could sponsor the Bulls. :/
YalokIy, 14 Sep 2017So hard to actually measure and compare the areas?Yeah, I don't understand GSMarena,
Why don't just specify centimeter square (cm2) screen area? instead of complicated things up
Sorry but those edge display on the s8 are useless also youcant virrw content on those edges
Man. iPhone X at $999 starting price blaming Samsung for expensive OLED screen supply.
We had OLED screens since 2009. Most wouldn't know the difference. Maybe it's the Animoji function that's going to make people buying this. All the fans keep telling us of superior color gamut with LCD. Now what?
Anonymous, 14 Sep 2017Once you start playing games like excluding the top of the iPhone X display which can only be ... moreOr, of course, not use the diagonal as a measure of screen size, since varying aspect ratios, curved edges and cut-outs all mean that it isn't a good way of comparing different devices anyway.
i wonder how will the phone seller explain this to customer in layman term..and each of the big oem has different aspect ratio on their phone, iphone, s8, g6 etc. etc.
Once you start playing games like excluding the top of the iPhone X display which can only be used for status icons you surely have to be consistent. After all, the equivalent icons are part of the display on other devices. And if we start removing parts of the display area that are not fully functional, how should you account for the curved edges of the S8 display, which are less useful than the flat bit? When you compared iPhone X to S8 areas you removed the "reduced functionality" part of the iPhone display but kept it for the Galaxy, since the diagonal you quoted for the S8 includes bit of the display that's folded down. I'd argue that this either overstates the usable display area of the Samsung or understates the total display area of the iPhone.
Maybe it's better to keep things simple by just comparing to flat-screened devices, which would leave only one oddity you had to decide how to handle rather than two.
