The key to the future direction of the smartphone segment is to an extent the operating system, of which iOS has proved popular, but also in the pipeline is the design and deployment of greater chip power within mobile devices. This will again prove to be a game changer and may bring new entrants into the smartphone market that traditionally have only served the mainstream computing segment. This makes sense given that the smartphone sector is cannibalising sales of PCs in so far as instead of replacing existing PCs people are often ofting for a smartphone solution.
The only chance Nokia will bounce back if they launch more n more Meego based phones. Meego is wonderful OS same as Apple iOS and Android.
If Nokia stay with windows then there is no chance and forget to beat Apple and Android.
Nokia still u have time to bounce back.......all the best nokia.......we will miss you.
therock, 22 Jul 2011Intel may support meeGO, hopefully, since it is created by intel. Nokia has to advertise an... moreno meego is made by the meego community..its a group of people..(school teachers, engineers, programmers, wed developers) intel only made the nokias version of meego..they didnt make meego for other oems
Hopefully, Nokia will survive the catastrophe and get back on the road with WP7. I really wish them well. But then again, it does not mean I will buy a WP7 Nokia since I hate Microsoft very much (as of now, I'll hold my N8 tight). In the past, there was a Microsoft "partner" (or shall I say victim?) called "Sendo" which Microsoft bullied and crushed badly.
Nokia is another victim of Microsoft. They sent Elop to take over a position at Nokia that can control the company. And where is Nokia now? They are deep in the red! All thanks to Elop.
Olli Kallasvuo was a disaster of a CEO for Nokia, alright. It took him 4 years to mismanage Nokia and transform it to a defenseless creature. But Elop did it in a phenomenal 4 months! 4 years versus 4 months, you do the math. It has always been a strategy of Microsoft. That thing called "ENTRYISM". They do it to kill open-source projects. Remember, MeeGo is based on Linux and we all know how Microsoft constantly bullies Linux. So to bully Linux even more, they had to take control of Nokia which has heavily been banking on MeeGo along with Intel.
So now Elop is in Nokia, he can easily say, "Let's abandon MeeGo and go for Windows".
With Elop at Nokia, Nokia will suffer even more. The Nokia-Microsoft deal alone is too abusive for the part of Nokia with Microsoft gaining HUGE advantages.
FIRE ELOP NOW! URGENTLY!!!
now I'm start to think that elop also work for apple.
but it's just me, a nokia user. *not a fanboy*
success is every person or product. these days is apple days.

Nokia has to advertise and market this device and other future nokia smartphone in public stores and cel phone carriers to get public attention to be hot sellers.

If so they'd... moreEvery company has the intention to monopolize the targetted market, but Apple, not only are they leading in the smartphone, tablets and student's laptop area, adding to that their ''uptight'' attitude in their software pretty much spells out a tight dictatorship for the consumers to me. As for Android, it's an open source man; open source dominating the market is a win for the consumers, because it's owned by everyone.
Anonymous, 22 Jul 2011I really don't think Apple has intentions of monopolizing the way microsoft did. If so they'd... moreGoogle isn't making the monopoly at all, they don't make the choice to have handsets use their operating system. The other manufacturers make the choice to do that. Eventually I see the market being very much like Microsoft/Apple's computer market dominance. You'll have Android making the large majority of handsets just because everyone can access some form of android, from the bottom end to the top end which easily rival an iPhone. But iPhones will become a "premium" accessory in the same way a mac is.

I'm a huge fan of Nokia's build quality as well as the camera in the N8. Im hoping their efforts with Microsoft pay off enough to put the company back into relevance. They need to make a nice wide array of appealing devices running WP7 with multiple cameras and screen sizes in order to do so. I'm pulling for a 4" WP7 with another amazing 12mp carl zeiss camera. I'd be first in line. After using the N8 - this phone's camera can do so much more than any other camera out there in terms of real quality.

So don't make assumptions that the n9 is a zombie. It hasn't been release yet...=).
adandennis, 22 Jul 2011Who wants a dumb iphone? Useless. I got tired of downloading simply useless apps in an ipod un... moreThe vast majority claimed they could never replicate the problem's faced by a small percentage of iPhone users. The phone can clearly make phone calls. Funny how people will pick on the iPhone for this yet you don't hear much about HTC Sensation anymore since the whole calls/wifi/bluetooth dropping debacle a couple of weeks ago. Reason - the iPhone sells so much better. Whenever a product sells as well as the iPhone they are put onto a higher pedestal of expectations. And the only people I ever hear complaining about the iPhone being a "dumb phone" are the techies on this website that think all buyers are interested in the same features they are. Clearly they are not.

Anonym, 22 Jul 2011So surpasing nokia for just 1 quarter makes them a better company? LOL!No, not just in surpassing Nokia for 1 quarter but the article reads that Apple sold the most smartphones out of any manufacturer. For a company that sells essentially only 2 models... that's astonishing.
That's all well and good. But it's more a story of a company that has done the wrong things at all the wrong times. It's about Nokia failure not Apples success.
