Anonymous, 06 Feb 2012On a smartphone maybe, but it wasnt the first intention of google to make a smartphone os. Sim... morethere is no evidence to support this theory.
although Android was being developed as early as 2003 it was always being developed as a smartphone OS.
Due to Apple's closed environment it's difficult to say when they started to develop iOS. But one thing's for certain, it takes years to develop a fully working platform as smooth & advanced as both iOS and Android so it's safe to assume they started development at around the same time.
The fact is. There were no products released of any shape or form using the android platform until after the iPhone.
It could also be argued (very truthfully) that these technologies were around before the iPhone. But even the most blindfolded apple hater has to admit that the iPhone changed the game.
Sure there were touchscreen phones but these were on the whole, pants. (with the possible exception of the SE P900 which was a fantastic phone in its day) but look at the face of the smartphone market both pre & post iPhone & look at the handsets released by all the big manufacturers & you'll see they certainly jumped on the iPhone bandwagon.
I have nothing but respect for Google with the Android platform & they certainly saved a lot of phone companies from oblivion, motorola being the biggest example, but even Samsung was floundering aimlessly with windows 6.1 & Symbian devices (i900 omnia, Omnia HD etc). Their own efforts in the Bada platform haven't made a dent
HTC's efforts were boring & chunky winmo 6.1 bricks until the iPhone. they then got sleeker with the HTC touch HD & Diamond but were still hampered by a poor OS until Android came along.
I'm not defending any particular OS & indeed, I think it's sad that people seem to think they garner some sort of kudos for deciding to buy a certain product (even though they had absolutely nothing to do with development of it) & then rabidly hate someone else for not following their choice. Shallow in the extreme...
Just trying to give credit where it's due. & the iPhone certainly deserves credit as does Android.
prem, 06 Feb 2012iOS 5 copied Android's notifications, facetime is a copy of Google's video/voice/text app call... morethat's quite a response to a simple statement that Android didn't come out until 2008...
I never mentioned anything about who copied from who. I just stated a simple fact.
I think you may have issues.
Perhaps you need to get out more...
prem, 06 Feb 2012iOS 5 copied Android's notifications, facetime is a copy of Google's video/voice/text app call... moreErm.....
Notifications on screen were around before Android, Facetime is simply video calling that kicked off when 3g networks came about, and icloud is just apple's version of the latest thing in computing. There were smartphones around before Android, and Google didn't invent everything.

Android was out BEFORE iPhone with iOS.
iPhone 1st gen, was an iPod with mobile tech inside, not more, App Store was the real revolution and that came a little later than the first gen iPhone and at that time, like the Nokia N95 and Nokia N73 were way better phones. N95 already had GPS and all functionality like iPhone 1st gen... iPhone 1st gen really wasnt that great, just a logic step, after the success of the iPod.
dydystar, 04 Feb 2012Motorola sucks, no update for us but have the time to deal with Apple, speaking legal stuff, t... moreAPPLE didnt invent the touchscreen and didnt invent the multitouch, apple has good marketeers... even now, people believe apple did so, thats good marketing, not more. Thats why people say, that iFans are somehow brainwashed...
And I think it is funny, that the stupid design is actually the only argument of apple, like the design is the only reason for success, i mean it looks good, but not not leagues better than models of competitors... See how stupid all you said sounds?
Anonymous, 06 Feb 2012soz but Android didn't come out until 2008 with the G1.On a smartphone maybe, but it wasnt the first intention of google to make a smartphone os. Simply accept the fact, that Android is older.

Otherwise I think you cannot blame a site like GSMarena to focus on the smartphone market if that's its purpose!
Anonymous, 06 Feb 2012soz but Android didn't come out until 2008 with the G1.iOS 5 copied Android's notifications, facetime is a copy of Google's video/voice/text app called talk, iCloud is based on Google's cloud services.. So yes, Apple is a big copier..
Hussein Berjaoui, 04 Feb 2012Yes, Android was out in 2007 ;)soz but Android didn't come out until 2008 with the G1.
mcav, 04 Feb 2012These patent wars mean that everyone's a loser baby, that's no lie. All of this is bad news... moreSmartphones are unimportant toys; symbols of elitism, snobbery and consumerism run rampant. To hell with distractions. The world needs innovation in education, poverty elimination, and real government for the people, by the people. The world has thousands of models of phones to choose from, yet only two not-so-wonderful options for the next president of the United States? Get some perspective.
Kimo, 04 Feb 2012If u talking about patents so lets see hmmmmm I won't talk much just go back to 2007 and compa... moreI believe you are wrong, thousands of phones on the 2007 were already much more better than the crappy iPhone, there were also several touch phones before the iPhone, for example HTC was one of the first brands to began with touch phones and wireless hand-held devices, so don't come you "applefanboy" to defend a company we all know it sucks and steals patents and ideas from others!
Its all getting very boring now.... I should watch what i say or i may get sued as well lol
These patent wars mean that everyone's a loser baby, that's no lie.
All of this is bad news for customers. It doesn't matter what company gets a ban on any other company. The whole thing holds back innovation, leading to phones going through such iterative advances instead of leaping forward.

For you, big earners, stop making cheep marketing and sales(using courthyards) and start making some real! Your both great and rubbish at the same time, only the logo differs...
For god'sake, people, what the hell are you doing here?
READ THE DAMN ARTICLE, that's one. And those of you who are not kids, stop acting like one. So much hate from both sides, for what?
None of the androids or iphones are crap, just differents aproachs of the same tech. Apple took some ideas, androids took some and the story goes on and on.
Just pick whatever it suits you, and leave the other party alone.
