An interesting, if unsurprising article. But let's face it - who choses their next new phone based on it's potential future resale value?

what are the factors? there are only 3 types of iphones out there now' relesed once a year. there are hundreds of android devices and around 5 more monthly. geez.

Just to be sure, did the guy writing this text actually LOOK at the curves???

After two years the difference between the three are MINIMAL.
But yes IF you want to sell the phone just after you bought it, the fruits fall slower....

And I guess the second graph is also for the first few months - otherwise the two graphs does not match.

No device gets outdated faster than the android due to the speed of the update in phone models so no wonder they have the lowest re-sell value. Its simple, sound like Apple trying to have another small win(loss).

Ppl waste enough money on iphones so y would any want to spend loads on a old iphone? I know the answer! Its ppl who get sucked in to the apple tv ads rather than lookin for the right phone with good specs etc...

It's not surprising, because iphone new models are released after 1 year. after 18 months, an iphone has only one model after itself, but Android phones are releasing very fast and when u buy an Android phone, after 18 months there are not many people that want to have your old phone, so the price drops faster.

Apple in general are just over rated i had iphone 3 and 4 and now Im using a Samsung galaxy s2, and to be honest this phone is the top notch for me.. Apple should start making better designs, display screens and battery life people pay good money for it

in india
iphone 4s16gb= 44500 Rs
galaxy s2 16gb =27500 Rs (44500-27500=17100)

after 18 months
iphone 53%=23638 =23638
android 32%=11550 now add 17100 left @ buying= 28650

haha...android had 1.1 % profit.(1650 rupees) after 18 months compared to iphone...

I think one of the big reasons are that a new iPhone often are in back order and out of stock. one of my friends had broken the glass on his new iPhone 4 both back and front. The insurance agency authorised for him to buy a new one ore buy an iPhone 4s and pay the difference himself. he was number 80 in wait for a phone and number 1 had waited over 3 months... even the regular iPhone 4 was in back order and wouldnt arrive in the next 4-6 months. He ended up buying a used iPhone 4 (8gb)for $286
