The difference between the mouse and this hover touch is that, with a mouse you don't need to move the mouse to click a button. Movement and clicking (or activating) are independent of the other.
With hover touch, they aren't. You'll be moving while you're trying to 'activate' a command. Perhaps if you could use it two handed, that would eliminate that issue.
I hope it goes well though - for Sony's sake.

You can highlight text and that by hovering, and that's good and all.
When you move your finger to the screen to press a button, you'd need to be careful not to highlight anything else while you're moving your finger to the screen. Maybe with two hands that wouldn't be a problem..
But it seems with this tech you still need to touch the screen anyway.. So, seems a bit useless to me.
Thanks for your comments.

That`s what I call trolling.
FloatingTouch works like a charm, there is some real life reviews already, just wach them before you denied it`s efficiency.
With ICS this tech will be incorporated deeper into the UI and with more developers into it this could easily become a must have tech. Well it could stay as gimmick as well, we`ll see...

i dont see how you could "easily activate things by mistake" when hovering only acts as a cursor highlighting items on the screen, you still will need to touch the screen to click, this hovering could indeed revolutionize touch screens.
