Nokia Q1 results show big drop in smartphone sales - read the full textNokia just announced their financial results for Q1 of 2012 and things aren't looking that good, but CEO Stephen Elop is keeping his chin up. Nokia's smartphone division was hit the hardest, but the good news for them is that this is due to the decline in sales of Symbian phones, with the Lumia...

Nokia should just give up they had a good run for the last 2 decades BB starting to estimate their options, Nokia should do that as well...
They don't have good luck in touchscreen and smartphones they were good at regular phones and that's there level
Can you believe a company wants to survive and their high end phone comes with Qualcomm 1.4! while there is 1.5 dual Qualcomm but in the end Qualcomm is a weak chip you can see by yourself that I9000 "Cortex 1.0" blows I9001 "Qualcomm 1.4" out of water in real life and benchmarks, So Nokia Lumia 900 with 1.4 Qualcomm is nothing more than 680 MHZ Cortex!
WP doesn't have native support for HD movies or Games and you read people trying to act smart by saying Smartphones don't need dual and quad core but those dumb don't know even Windows XP can run on Pentium 4 single core but it will not run HD movies, They will lag and myself i tried and HD games you can forget it like Crysis 3, Android too it can run smoothly on single core but not enough for everyday technology "You can't run ShodowGun on WP single core or 1080P Movies"

Well hers another take on some of whats happened, its restructuring and other departments at fault including Siemens division with lack of infrasructure demand.

http://www.cellular-news.com/s...4009.php?s=h

This time last year Sony Ericsson and Moto where in the doldrums but on the up now..BB is having a bad time but restructuring for QNX..Nokia is still excellent with Radio signals ,hardware and cameras, microphones its is excellent..

I have tried the W7 Lumia 710 but sold it due to lack a of basic equaliser..It is still early days for W7 but it is fresh O/S and some folk love its fresh appeal..

Yes i think Nokia porfolio should be Symbian with focus on qwerty candybar/clamshells and S40 at lower end and at the top should be Meego...W7 has big chance but needs more developmant and more apps(free apps)..I still trust Nokia to build a good solid performing mobile phone with good quality components..

My back up phone is N8 or trusty N79..

From the beginning when I knew about Nokia using WP os, I know it will fail. The key is to differentiate itself from other manufacturers. If they are using WP with the restriction of hardware spec, how can differentiate from Samsung, HTC, etc.

Lets look at Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Note, yes they are using the same android, but with the different spec and apps, it differentiate the two device even with the same os.

Nokia fail is just because WP is not a os for the consumer.

Nokia will lose this battle if WP keep restrict the hardware spec. Microsoft have to remember, they are not Apple. They just forget why they win over Apple in the desktop. Apple already build a lifecycle with its stratagy. Why WP just follow Apple footstep and not create their own.

Well...
Anouncing Nokia abandoning Symbian platform and moving to Windows total did it's job, and people start abandoning MicroNokia. It's clear for everyone that priority is set for Nokia not fighting for survival in mobile market but for survival of Windows in mobile market. And this priority, set by mr.Elop and very top Nokia managers, will drive MicroNokia into coffin rather sooner than later.
Last year I was writing RIP BlackBerry under BlackBerry news. This year I can see that soon Nokia will follow RIM. So....
RIP MicroNokia.

the problem is your releasingtoomuch phones concentrate on a few but asskicking phone.... elop wants windows.... fine but the bigges mistake yourdoing is nokia is giving up on symbian which i think is enough to compit on mid range phones..... and meego for the high end phones..... try to dvelop n9 nd meego..... work with intel once again for the development of meego.....

"single-core 1.6GHz Saltwell CPU with Hyper-Threading, PowerVR SGX540
GPU clocked at 400MHz and 32-bit Dual channel LPDDR2 memory"..... (excerpts fom the first intel mobile phone) i dont know guys but somehow i feel this specs is meant for n9 if only both nokia and intel had continued working with meego......

I'm not good at reading financial report, lol. But if this continue, nokia should wisely change their smartphone strategy. Listen more to what people wants.

The problem is price, with the same price tag I can get better android phone.
Nokia should lower their lumia price, I bet it will sell as hot cakes.

I think if nokia continue to run strongly Symbian os with windows then Nokia could catch extra market place.
i am an android user, android is very interesting and getting very popular os but i am now tired.Android does my brain engage to make my phone up to date and for new better apps installing and uninstalling os maintenance etc and i am really very tired. now i am planing to go with Symbian again.Belle is now very cool os belle can do every thing easier of our daily use and have getting more fun.I think huge peoples are spending same as my situation. So If not,Elop will become flop and soon Nokia become a little baby company.ha ha ha ha.......and giant company will eat it,

Man was I right, or was I right? Lol

Anyway, Nokia should've went MeeGo. WP is ok but I personally just don't like it much, at least not yet.

Oh well, anyway, in 2 weeks, I'll see what Intel and Ssmsung are cooking up with Tizen and that may be the OS I choose to support fully. Depending on how it looks and performs. It will be lacking, thats a given but it's the 1st iteration so I'm willing to give it some time to mature.

Come on Intel, you just launched your first XOlo900 phone, now lets go with Tizen! Bring some phones to the US!

still i think meego would have been a big help if only given the chance..... if nokua wants to play on windws theater it need superior specs..... nokia obviosly has the design but the thinges ticking at the inside would make power users and knowledgable buyers doubt it.... apolo hope you could live to the spectations..... im still awfuly sory for the meego....such a young os with lots of potential!!!!!!

It is not Symbian that is falling but Nokia that abandoned it. Not understanding the simplest: its trouble were and are in hardware, not in software!
But, Elop's field was software...

to put all of their eggs in one basket and that too wp is not a great idea imo..i m NOT a nokia or wp hater but this is what i feel..atleast in my country, india, which happens to be a stronghold of nokia. For an instance, i'll be getting my next phone within 2 months and lumia 710 ticks most of the boxes but no bt file transfer along with lack of proper file mgt is a major deal breaker for me and almost every other student out there..at my place bluetooth file transfer sits above camera in priority list!!

I feel so sorry for Nokia. They should have just sticked with Samsung's strategy of releasing one single superphone with Android every year, and release two or three mid/low end Android phones.

Smartphone YoY Drop by 52 %
Feature Phones YoY Drop by 32%

Smart phones decline is predictable, but even feature phones. that really something alarming.

Hope the 'loyal' fans shall help boost the sales ( as they proclaim across the forums). No offense meant.
