First of all, all the guys who bought play for just an ICS update are stupid..just think every game is supposed to program on particular software,Play has 2.3 and much of games are available on it....hardware of play is nt that strong to support ICS and ps game both....I bet if u update mini pro or mini to ICS it will slow.
And if u wanted an ICS upgradqble fne why dnt u bought Arc???
anyways...it was gr8 misunderstanding...that sony will have to pay.
Blame Google guys -- ICS is bloated junk, and not suitable for efficient performance.
Official reply from Sony Mobile Blog:
'In regards to Xperia PLAY, after extensive in house testing with our developer teams and working with our partners, we have concluded that a consistent and stable experience, particularly with gaming, cannot be guaranteed for this smartphone on Ice Cream Sandwich – therefore, we will not make the Android 4.0 upgrade available for Xperia PLAY.
This decision was also verified when we received similar feedback from the developer community; both experienced developers and advanced users, along with game content providers following our ICS beta ROM for unlocked Xperia PLAY smartphones.
Our priority has and always will be, to provide the best possible user experience on Xperia smartphones. In this instance the ICS upgrade would have compromised stability, where we look to ensure a quality gaming experience with games optimized and developed for Xperia PLAY.'

I only got this phone for the ics update naw wats the point of the phone. Sony chat crap
All guys note one thing sony already made Ics for play but for full performance they asked to stay in 2.3. So thanks for not cheating people by upgrade for Ics and thanks for being genune
like some of you said, sony have ps vita selling in the market already. do you think that update still necessary?
and i had been thinking about this for a couple weekends since i got my ps vita. if the ps program can run inside android, what if after the xperia play is upgraded and people out there can transfer the OS to ps vita? would that be great. cause the new psv can do so much, its just like the new ipod touch4. do you know, you can make the itouch4 become a iphone? And all you need is a (appl peel). google it then you know what i mean.
Gingerbread is good for gaming. And some game don't support ics.sony did right thing.just understand that Xperia play for gaming.
Glad I bought a galaxy s 1 now plenty of google updates thanks to nexus s. Runs custom ics fast little low on ram but custom big memory kernals see to that with gpu overclock to 1.2ghz it plays gta 3 and mass effect with ease and all on ps3 controller :)
I think with ram and rom on the play Sony carnt be arsed to make ics work but I am sure it will carry on getting dev support so just root the phone custom firmware and enjoy the true power and kick arse speakers of the play I say
This is disappointing. And the 'silent' part of the move is even worse. I know the Xpera Play has one of the most exotic hardware sets to be found on a phone recently, and pairing software with it is not an easy task, but support has been awful for this device, and this non-announcement is the cherry on top of the failure dessert. Xperia Play could have been a stellar product and a game changer, but ended up being just a mid range phone with a weird and somehow nice feature. :s
They still say quite clearly ALL 2011 Xperias will be upgraded. They may just have missed the model in the list by mistake. Reporting this as a sure thing without confirming it is simply unacceptable.
After I bought X10, I was a little happy about it, then I bought PLAY and then am VERY disappointed with SONY even though ERICSSON is already took the scapegoat position... adios SONY. I am staying with SAMSUNG at the moment as I am VERY happy with my NOTE
Is xperia s not in the list also??
oh my god! They are so utrustable! I bought my PLAY back in november, just because it was able to get ICS! I am ever going to buy any of Sony (Ericsson) phones again!
Bullshit!!!they made it possible with gingerbread..

AnonD-12837, 25 May 2012the ics running on your friends phone is ICS BETA ROM.so it still has lots of bugs and its not... moreEvery one Said that Beta or Custom ROM is slow. But i didn't find that on my Friend Xperia Play. But Some of the Playstation Game is not Working and The Playstore is unable. I don't know maybe this why Sony do not Update xperia play to ICS.
AnonD-9845, 25 May 2012you might not be familiar with the terms 'rooting', 'unlocking' and 'flashing'..I already Checked that phone work very well ( I borrowed him use for There days ).
Anonymous, 25 May 2012If you really want the latest OS you would've bought a Nexus phone.you are right its a nature of android, not from a hardware vendor . I still prefer a "solid OS" and yes it's not android and not apple.
Don' be so sad se player. no point to update to ics.
I just downgraded back to ggb after 5 day of using ics. I feel like home now, cheer up :)
It's a typo, someone comfirmed that.
