Dual Core is enough for an Android smartphone, even with 720p display (with decent GPU ofc, like Adreno 220 which Xperia S uses). But many complained about the poor battery of Xperia S, its just that they are complaining immidiately right after they have tested the device without even for a week.
No mobile or for that matter desktop / laptop / tablet OS makes optimal use of Quad core processors let alone dual core.
We are about 2 - 3 years before optimal usage of quad core technology will start showing results.
AnonD-58534, 11 Jun 2012Doesn't matter . Android still rocks . U mad Nokia ? :D If Android fanboys have decided to pay fancy looking multicore without thinking then nobody can stop them from wasting their money on those resource hungry devices that cant even stand a day without chargin

Anonymous, 11 Jun 2012That what the fellow telling you Android wasting resources, need multiple core to run, that wh... moreYou obviously do not own a dual core android device. If you did you would notice that ICS has enhanced battery life, improved the camera quality and the phone is generally smoother in general operation. Ignorance is not bliss!!
yes they may be left behind and greedy but it's actually true, though the is a SoC that does better than that, Exynos
ALL I AM HEARING IS"we are 2 years behind the other manufacturers who are making shitloads of money because we are idiots and we did not join them so we are making up silly excuses"
Anonymous, 11 Jun 2012That what the fellow telling you Android wasting resources, need multiple core to run, that wh... moreYeah that's why simple old architecture 600MHz phones can run Android decently well with low ram, gpu, and rom. Because it only works on high end devices
Even though this may be a classic PR talk, there is a bit of a truth there. A friend has a dual-core Galaxy Nexus and I've noticed that in some aspects (like messaging, calling, and overall stability) it sometimes gets slower than my HTC Hero with 528 MHz processor (both with official OS's). The only things more cores can be needed for are gaming, watching high quality videos and a few other power-hungry stuff. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fanboy of any OS.
FO2, 11 Jun 2012I will only fault the OEMs such as Samsung and HTC who actually came up with this multi core c... moreAs an Sony Xperia arc s onwer I will disagree with you totally. I thought the same as you because I read loads of comments about people saying duel cores are no good and its too new tec and they cant use its full potential, so I went for an arc s over a SII and I regret it big time. My friend has a SII and it out performs my arc s big time. Give me spcs and power any day because 99.9% of you dollys on here don't know what your on about trolling these sites.
Okay. In my Galaxy Nexus, one of the cores will be used efficiently. So let the other core remain turned off. We will have equivalent performance in comparison to a WP. We will wait for the next version of android which will support better multi-core usage and enjoy the experience. You guys will upgrade to WP8 with your shitty single core device. Thank you.
Seems to me that the problem could be in Dalvik VM and not in the scheduler. Come on, linux scheduler not up to multicore, that’s nonsense.
Anonymous, 11 Jun 2012Craps, My SGW with 1.4 Ghz single core never lagged in HD Game (unroot original).Oh really?
Then why it's laggy on this overclocked Galaxy S?
From 00:41 to 00:43 you can notice the lag

The key word is booster/Custom ROM
AnonD-24171, 11 Jun 2012It's simply that Intel didn't reach for multi-core in smartphones so they have to say such a t... moreThat what the fellow telling you Android wasting resources, need multiple core to run, that why dual core SGS2 & Note is having hell time with ICS, coz they need 4 cores SGS3 to run ICS, in short Anroid are like Gasoline powered car while other OS are like Diesel powered car.
I'm a big fan of Android, but there is an element of truth to this. Apple have successfully created robust software that best utilises the hardware. ICS has done a lot to bridge the gap. Having said that Android has come a long way in a short period and deserves its market dominance.
Finally, instead of issuing such a statement why doesn't Intel focus on making a bigger impact in the smartphone arena.
Intel's SoC is an entirely different architecture, optimized so it can run Android perfectly on a single core. It's still a smartphone though. You'll be using it often and heavily so you'll still have to charge every day. Dual core or single doesn't make a single bit of difference if the power consumption and performance are the same.
Its not problem only with android every operating system is not full utilize the CPU.
He didn't say that android don't use more cores , just that android doesn't use cores as effective as it should.
