According to this thing, recently shown W980 is 8th succesor of hi-end walkman candybar phone, makes perfect sense :)

does this mean that the G900 is not a mid ranged phone after all?
following that nomenclature, it would mean then that only the G700 would be in the mid range, or truly be designated as the smart phone for the masses.

If it is indeed a high-end phone, then the announced price of 300 would be a bit low, don't you think so?

i agree with some of the comments about not reading too much into this layout as its still obviously to be fine tuned. However the person who was quoted as saying the W980 is an older model(MM3 or something).. Could you tell me where to get this 'old' model as with it being old i'm sure its alot cheaper than the forthcoming Sony W980. Just think before you type please.

Before you go saying - that graph doesn't apply to this phone or the other, please take your time and go to the Sony Ericsson portfolio page linked in the news article.

The new rules apply only to handsets that don't end in "i". Sony Ericsson W980 ends in "i" - its full name is W980i.

Great to know. I wish all other brands follow their own nomenclature scheme and let people know about it.
There are way many models out there with same name but different brands. Its confusing.

Lalaland, this is correct, but the W980 is an older model. This nomenclature is for the still to be released phones like the G900/G700 etc.
