Here's why current WP phones won't get Windows Phone 8 - read the full textMicrosoft caused a lot of excitement when they announced Windows Phone 8, but also a good deal of disappointment when it became clear that the new OS won't be coming to the current crop of Windows Phone devices. There's a reason for that - the two OSes may look similar on the outside, but they...

In this case, I think Microsoft is helpless.
The reason is that Windows 8 and Windows 7.5 are far way different.
Most of the cons in Windows phone 7.5 are healed in Windows 8.
Still they are providing 7.8 update..

LOL! Another fail for Microsoft and WP. So glad I went with Android and don't have to deal with this garbage.

one more legendary cock up from microsoft how can they treat their customers like that? WP7.5 users were all left with relatively new hardware that can't be upgraded with new software. Do they actually do any sort of long term planning or do they simply despise their customers and think everyone is stupid? or are they simply trying to squeeze a few more bucks out of microsoft customers?

Windows Phone 7.X is based on the very old Windows CE kernel for mobile. This new Windows Phone 8 shares the same Windows NT kernel that is in Windows 8 PC. WP8 will run DirectX games just like on PC. Porting games between Windows 8 and WP8 will be easy too. You should see amazing games on Windows Phone 8. WP8 supports up to 64 cores CPU/processor. They won't switch to another kernel for a while.

WP8 Should have been the o/s for Nokia to start with. Sorry, but being a FORMER Lumia 710 owner, I will NEVER buy a WP device again. This device crashed constantly, could not upload/download online, no tethering, cramped storage, the list is ENDLESS.....total JUNK! Even Symbian was a lot better in my view, and as recent as windows CE. How about a Windows 7 heart to an o/s how many years away are we from that? MS have little to offer, now or possible in the future. I have no idea why this is the cas as Microsoft gave us windows, which is very similar to the flexibility offered by (Linux) Android. But I feel we are on a dead-end road here, sadly.

WP7 is not similar to Winmo, it doesn't share the code base. They were in a hurry to pump it out, so they skipped the back compatibility.
