Ov, 12 Jul 2012Just use a proper video player with proper codes LOL.It happens with every video player mx pro , mobo etc... This is not a codec or encoding issue.
Anonymous, 12 Jul 2012i Bought mine the day it came out and still no problems. The phone gets better and betterTry looking at a movie with dark scenes with all of your lights switched off in the room u r in.
Spudly, 12 Jul 2012Never had this problem on my Note. Weird that the phone's been out this long and one person ma... moreThis issue is widespread, just google " galaxy note black clipping / crush) and u may realise how many people are suffering with this. I have exchanged my note twice now and all have this problem.
I have exchanged my note twice now due to the black clipping. All of them have the issue, after contacting samsung they refused to say there was a problem, they said that the one they have in the office does it and it is a feature ( how can this be a feature???) They then u turned and said that I should send my brand new note in for repair (wtf!!! I just opened it how can it be broken?). What is the point in them changing the screen for another one with the same issue? Samsung need to aknowledge this issue and do something about it, as advertising this device as great for watching movies is just a lie.
same thing is happening wid ma phone frm the day i borrowed....n its a problem or what bt i've observed in all the white colored sets....
The funny thing is that 95% of the people on this thread claiming to have Galaxy Note does not even have one. If you look at the IP signatures of the comments, these are same people on other threads claiming to also have HTC One X, Galaxy S3, Motorola Razr, Nokia N9 etc etc. These are just people who make up stories to pe part of the debate, social wannabes. Also alot of them are also iPhone users pretending to have major problems with their Samsung devices just to bash and hate. Grow up! Both the wannabes and the iPhone users.
So you can just walk into a store and open every single new Galaxy Note box, put them on, transfer dark image videos to theme and test them? Unless you work for the federal agency, have a warrant for it and can only do it in American stores, it is believable. So please stop talking nonsense like people here are 5 year old children. Nobodys is denying this problem exist on about 200 000 Notes out there. But i can see right through Apple fanboys pretending to Samsung owners and make up bashing stories just so people will believe your made up stories.
The think is there isn't a perfect phone out there (and probably never will be).
I have a note and love it. The screen is awesome, its quick and i can always have it in my pocket.
I have had iphones and SGS2 and could never go back to a small screen.
This issue only happens in videos where there is lots of dark areas, not great but definatly not a deal breaker. Hopefully its fixed for the Note 2.

I updated to 4.0.4 a couple of days ago and it hasn't happened. So far so good.
i ditched LG for their dust-under-the-screen crap. they even told me it's normal! That's bad quality control right there. and now samsung is ignoring the issue. looks like i wont be buying any more samsung products, they're as bad as LG.

The issue is that in dark scenes, and a lot of the black gray backgrounds become pixelated and it is horrible to look at especially on the huge screen. Samsung still refuses to acknowledge this issue, which has been reported ever since launch.
I have been facing some issues since I last updated to ICS. The screen starts blinking and starts giving colors just as an LCD monitor would give if it is not working properly and is uanble to pick up colors ... may be some problem to do with the GPU synchronization. Green lines, pink lines, yellow lines, red lines ... the green ones are most prominent ... the screen would then go green for a while, blink, show some scattered colors, go black and come to life ... Its been six weeks since I updated to ICS and this has happened thrice
Unfortunately the black clipping is not the only issue with this device. Dont forget that there is the faulty eMMc issue that can potentially render the phone completely useless. The high risk owners will be those that regularly use the factory re-set function from the menu. People use this regularly for security reasons. I've had four units, and all of them had the black clipping and faulty eMMc. All of them sent back to point of sale for refunds. I would love to own the Galaxy Note, but thus far, I have yet to receive a satisfactory answer from Samsung regarding quality and reliability issues concerning this product.
You can check to see if your device has the faulty eMMc chip by simply installing the 'eMMc brick bug' app from play store. Its completely safe and easy to use and provides vital information that Samsung don't want you to know about.
You can read all about it at the XDA forums or just google it
Let the buyer beware.
I m also facing the same problem in my note from last 3 months. This problem is also visible in dark images.
Yeah happens here to with my note, I would love a fix from Samsung, but can't help but think they don't really care about this - there focus will always be the releasing the next best thing and making more money, fixing issues like this/offering support for phones only costs them money so I'm sure they would rather brush it under the table.
And don't even mention the EMMC bug that is bricking phones yet Samsung keep releasing kernels with the issue.
Ain't noticed this on mine but since the ICS update I have had rolling fuzzy display and the phone is getting quite slow on opening applications. oftern freezing for a few seconds, only solved by holding down the home button.
Otherwise it's a great phone and looking forward to seeing the Note 2 later this year.
awful Xperiance by note owners.
samsung devices r hot in few months..but in years of usage..?
i never trust samsung since they create 1st galaxy n 1st android,i7500.
samsung galexy is a very slim and smart device and i realy like samsung galexy,, most of my friend use samsung galexy
Yes,this happens on my Note too, it is very very annoying and kills the experience when watching anything really dark, I complained in some forums, but other people did not confirm the issue on their side so I thought it was only me, good thing it is confirmed now.
Add to that the poor S-pen performance, Galaxy Note was a big flop for me, I'm very disappointed, I will wait before thinking about getting Note 2.
