Motorola to lay off 20% of its workforce, focus on fewer devices - read the full textMotorola Mobility has announced that it'll be giving the boot to 20 percent of its workforce in the coming months. This is one of the few restructuring steps the company is taking, after it went under Google's ownership. In addition to the 4,000 layoffs, the company is also planning on...

If you want share in Indian market then your product should be loaded with maximum features at minimum price and don't forget effective marketing of eye-catching features of your phone. The examples are Samsung Galaxy Ace\Y and SE Live With WALKMAN.

Wait what?!
Motorola is going HTC way (only few flagship phones) and not Scamsung way (make trillion phones ranging from ultra cheap to ultra expensive)?
This is a stupid decision IMHO!
Just look at HTC now and it's getting worse by the month!
And if you look at Scamsung you'll see that even tho we were scammed into buying their fine hardware we will not get regular updates to newest OS for their flagship phones.
If Motorola would choose multiple handsets way and would also include ultra-cheap low end smartphones that would get support/updates to newest Android OS (if hardware supports it), then this would give them much needed advantage over Scamsung and would teach Scamsung to treat their customers better!
We all win, it'a ultra win-win-win situation!
Customers: WIN!
Google: WIN!
Motorola: WIN!
Samsung: is hurt a little --> get's a hard lesson like LG did!

> In reply to ZwanS @ 2012-08-14 09:45 from ftKa - click to readYes, I'm sad too when workers lose their jobs, but have no fear, if a company gets its act together it will hire back more people.
And now for your question about layoffs:
Not only lower ranking workers will get laid off, but also 40% of vice presidents will also be laid off (I'm guessing with golden parachutes :/ ).
So this is does not look like some random "let's F hardworking workers to get more profit" scheme to me, but a thorough restructure of the firm.

I'm always sad when folks have to lose their jobs. How are we to remain loyal to a brand when it strips down it's workers to remain in profit? That being said, I really do hope Motorola make a turn around because their sense of direction was quite disturbing. It seemed for a while that they were the only company intent on making expense cheap looking phones. I won't mind if their head of design gets demoted.

Android will still lead the market, just that Motorola is replacing Samsung to lead the Android market.
U R Wrong again !!
Samsung is nothing without Android, that is also the reason u end up with a Galaxy (Android) & not Wave (Bada) or Omnia W (Window).

I'm not suprised really but disappointed.
These days us UK Moto fanatics cannot go into any of the UK providers and walk out with a Moto on contract and when I've phoned and emailed Moto asking why they are not pushing for their brand to be more visible they tell me 'its up to the networks what phones they supply the public'
and now 20% are to lose their jobs.
Time to get your heads out of the sand Moto, or you'll drown.

Google Could have Developed their own Hardware Division than doing this expensive Moto Deal. Expanding Services and Offices to India / Asia is Kool idea while others in the group thinks Stupid, one thing we have to understand is calling some one stupid is not enough you have to prove yourself that you are not more stupid...nothing against but just a thought on how diff people think diff ways..there is always a better way to do things nothing is perfect in this world.
