Profit mean nothing, especially if Apple is over charging. You have to also remember that there are some pretty crappy android devices that poor people buy. For example, the Coby tablets at Target.

I think when Gartner tries to post his article and calculates his report he should take models using android and how many handsets are released with the android OS and then compare with the IOS and models and handset using IOS, that will give proper calculations for the dominance....also he should take the profits into consideration...which will make his reports right...as Apple is leading way ahead in terms of profits.

Android is sold by lots of different manufacturers, who also sell non-andropid phones. Look at the total units sold figures at the bottom of each chart - a lot more are being included in the second one. So that 28,935K works out to be much smaller as a % in the second chart

No surprises...samsung deserves the number one spot..but I foresee kilometer-long lines of people waiting to buy iphone 5 when it's launched..nokia should have realised by now that they're not going enywhere with winmo..the only thing I don't understand is how come these huawei and zte are ahead of established brands like lg and htc who clearly produce better phones..

I think your point was to say that this doesn't compare apples to apples (oh - bad pun!). The first table pretty much does.

The first tablets Operating systems - what are present only in smart phones and some very high end feature phones.
The second table is all types of phones: smartphones, feature phones...dumb phones (lol).

It's not clear if tablets are included in these figures - I suggest probably not.

> In reply to Windows Phone Fan @ 2012-08-14 12:38 from PZTM - click to readOK - let me get this right:

Win Phone QoQ:
Units sold: up 137% (or 2,363K)
Market share up 1.1% (or 68.75% increase)

Android QoQ:
Units sold: up 110% (or 51,753K)
Market share up 20.7% (or 47.7% increase)

So your right, WinMo had the highest % increase in sales, However the INCREASE in Android sales was 47,666K units more then what WinMo actually sold in total, or 2,017.1%

I think that 'taste of WinMo power' you mention needs to get a whole lot sweeter before we start getting carried away, cause looks like more people are walking right past that candy store then walking in or even ...ummm...window shopping...

> In reply to Chamamen @ 2012-08-14 15:24 from MNuQ - click to readdude can u even bring sense to the comment...android runs on almost all the handset manufacturer...which almost makes it to 15 to 20 handset manufacturer and its 1000's of models which uses android and sold in the market...so do you even think the calculation is correct...IOS runs on IPhone and its hardly on 5 to 10 models and if you calculate like can you see the profits then and the ratio, androind will not be 1/4th as well in comparison to IOS...well its just that Iphone has its own monoply and when Iphone is started with Android then no other handsets will be sold in the market.....

As for android though, even if it is gaining the lead, the one making the most profit is Apple, I mean the IPhone 4 or 4S is overpriced, there was once a discussion here that IPhone is being sold at double its production cost yet people are buying it because it is apple, It is premium and it gives you the WOW factor over everyone else... But then again, what can you do with an IPhone at I believe 25 to 29k here in our place with an Android at the 13 to 15k range? All I can say is when it comes to marketing, apple must be the best since they can sell their stuff at a premium price without the hassle every other company encounters...

This article only give us birdview result. In my opinion to really see how good the android or samsung is. We should compare the sale of let say galaxy s2 with iphone 4s and bb 9900. Then we can have a clear picture. Because comparing the iphone with other who have low range devices also will not give the exact picture.
