iPhone 3G for $199 or even free - but what's the catch? - read the full textWell, yesterday we cheered about the new iPhone 3G - it failed to deliver on all asking points just as the first-gen one, but still there's no better device on the market at the price point of 199 US dollars. Now today after things cooled down, our agitation slowly made room for some sober view on...

This article is completely bogus. You cannot count the service plan into the price of the phone. Let’s say I bought my 8800 arte for $950. With 2 years of service plan ($40/month), my 8800 arte ends up to be $950+$960=$1910??? No way. Service plan is a must for everybody; you have to pay the fees whether you have an Iphone or a Nokia. Yes, maybe the 3G plan is a bit over the top, but it is optional. The service’s carrier doesn’t make you sign-up for it. If Iphone 3G really going to be release at $299, it is a STEAL. You can’t even get a Nokia 2600 Classic for that same price. Last word, Iphone 3G is a Filet Mignon for a price of a beef jerky!!!

I live in a country in which there is no optional contract that includes the iPhone (I'll let you do the guessing..). I would gladly pay $500 in an Apple store for my own iPhone handset - but that's even not an option here.

HTC, lets see what's the price tag you give me for the Touch Pro!

Yes, the contracts ARE going to be very expensive,, but Apple never make anything cheap.

It WILL be coming onto Pay as you go/pay as you talk on O2 in the UK, however no prices mentioned yet. Hopefully under £500 but I wouldn't be surprised if it was more. Contracts total up to a minimum of around £1000 so, who knows...

yes, the contracts will be expensive, but i thought it is going to be available on pay as you go (or pay as you talk, whichever way you put it)?

Plus you have to pay extra 99$/year for the wireless sync feature. Basically same thing as Nokia's free Mail For Exchange.

o2 in the UK also will be selling the IPhone 3G on a Pay as you go..So no contract needed! Have read this will be about £269..which is the same price as the iphone 2G with a contract!
What makes it worth having a contract is the unlimited internet access and wifi.
Not sure if you have to pay any fees for using the GPS though.
