Apple iPhones is taking market share back from Android, accounting for 53.3% of U.S. smartphone sales for the 12-week period ending November 25, according to the market research firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech.

This is the first time Apple’s share of the U.S. market has topped 50%, Kantar said.

During the same period, Android’s share of the market fell to 41.9% of the market, while Microsoft Windows Phone held 2.7% share. Research In Motion had just 1.4% of the market in the period.

The research firm notes that AT&T accounted for 35.4% of smartphones sold in the U.S. in the period, ahead of Verizon Wireless at 31.9% and Sprint at 14.5%.

“The iPhone 5 has been successful this period however we also see that Apple’s older models – the iPhone 4S and 4 have also contributed to the growing share of iOS,” Kantar Worldpanel ComTech analyst Mary-Ann Parlato said in a statement. “This is particularly the case for first-time smartphone iPhone buyers where we see the older models still selling well amongst this group.”

Among iPhone buyers in November, 27% upgraded from another smartphone OS, 34% upgraded from a previous iPhone and 40% upgraded to their first smartphone.

Ppl once said it with wp7, they say it was the ultimate android killer, ios killer blah blah stupid predictions. Wp7 fails, then comes wp8 and the cycle continues. If wp8 fails again, you can expect it to be abandoned once more and here come wp9

MS bosses never can make a good OS phone. They never make a call. If they do, they ask their secretary to make a call for them.

If Microsoft didn't sell a single phone the previous year, they could easily say, "We sold INFINITELY more phones this year!" :)

> In reply to Fridaybird @ 2013-01-09 00:15 from q{Nf - click to readI agree, the new WP8 OS is really ugly with different sized live tiles tiles constantly flashing all the time..

I doubt anyone actually looks at their home screen and waits for a live tile to change???

You either want info like weather or calendar from a widget etc or you open the app full screen.

> In reply to Yuuup @ 2013-01-08 23:10 from 3ag0 - click to readlies...if you had problems with Lumia 800... then I bet, you wouldnt have gone for another lumia...which is a higher up version in HW and a notch higher OS ! Otherwise you should be a die hard fan of Nokia to do that. Rather it shows you are die hard Android fan, just speaking hatred and non true sentences. Tell us what went wrong with your Lumia 800 and 820 with little more details. Now please dont google to find out others' problems in Internet from your android mobile and copy-paste here !!!

That tells me Steve Balmer has successfully sold 500 devices. That is exactly 5X of his previous sale record of 100 Phones . . LOL :)
I am still waiting to see a single person in my surroundings owning or having interest to buy a Windows Phone. Even my friends who works at Microsoft Mississauga, ON office are tired of this block of plastic called WP8.

The problem with Windows Phones is they are so boring like dead fish. The phone rejects and repell user interest. How long you can watch those dull colors blocks . . so called Live tiles? who cares if tose are dead or alive (live). The half cut fonts on titles look ugly and irritating.
Microsoft needs another Bill Gates to redo their Phone Business. Steve Balmer better go back to his good old days Car Salesmanship business. I am sure he must be good at it . . Atleast.
