Samsung's 5-inch 1080p screen is now all but confirmed - read the full textWe've previously covered some juicy rumors that Samsung is working on a 5-inch 1080p screen of its own. Competing manufacturers have already announced plenty of smartphones with such a screen, so the race is in full swing while Samsung is not even the list. Well, fret not, because Sammy has its...

I5 is better but the colors aren't vibrant and alive and it's not even true HD . amoled ftw

I thought AMOLED's were supposed to bring better battery life with the blacks being non lit, or am I thinking of ClearBlack tech?

well, this is the least thing people expect to see on S4. but the saturated colors of AMOLED seem annoying. unfortunately people don't use their mind to understand the superiority of TFT screens over AMOLED. they just use their eyes!!

Im sorry, but this being a sAMOLED screen i actually a bad thing. Am I the only one who cares about the tru quality of the screen and the colors it produces and not about the deep blacks only?

5 Inch is not a mobile phone screen
its not a handy size , not suitable for using it by one hand or for normal daily use to keep it in your pocket while walking , setting , driving
I prefer android phones over IOS , but the most powerful android phones are really big 4.8 inch + " Samsung S3, Samsung Note 2 " while apple iphone 4 inch

Samsung for god sake I want a phone not a Mirror

If it's pentile, it's not really 1080p.
I prefer LCD to sAMOLED+ screens. But ordinary sAMOLED screens are just lousy..

> In reply to Dood @ 2013-01-14 21:45 from NreU - click to readI think we are reaching some size limit for mobile phones with 5 inchers (hopefully!).

But manufacturers went the easiest way to earn money: selling new techs right now instead of waiting for them to take less space for smaller phones if you see what i mean : HD / Full HD panels, bigger batteries, more powerful cpus, etc..

That allows them a different strategy than before where the smallest your phone was, the best it was.
That's also why i think Apple came and people found them so revolutionnary, they thought the other way and decided to set a different size for selling "techs".

Those techs will get eventually on smaller phones, but later and of course, it'll be disappointing since they won't be so new.

As long as the phone doesn't get bigger than S3, that 4.99" should be another fine screen. Can't wait to browse my albums / movies on that.

Why samsung is going for bigger and bigger screens , normal phones were 4 Inch screens , then Samsung produced S3 with a big screen 4.8 Note 2 with a bigger screen , and now they are going for 5 Inch screen , they must know that these big screens are not handy for most people , these screens are for giant people only not normal people !!

> In reply to TMB @ 2013-01-14 21:35 from 3D4Q - click to readGo drink some kool-aid already. There are plenty of 5'' LCD 1080p screens out there (for a start that LCD3 on HTC's Butterfly). Stop bitching about one company developing AMOLED screens for those of us who do like them. Having more screen tech options is a good thing (LCD, IGZO and AMOLED ftw).
