Please don't repeat that crappy cheap looking platicky designs!!! It seriously spoils first impression.
Some people do care about looks.
If a phone performs decently and has killer looks. Atleast for me, I will choose it over a super powerful yet crappy looking one.
After all very few ever use the full potential of a phone.
I am a Sony fan (of course, because of its looks and quality in whaterver (even) low specs it provide.)
Competition is always good for us costomers.

why phone nowadays are getting bigger and bigger? its kinda awkward holding it against your ear. not a big fan of iphone nor any brand but somehow i understand why their latest device has only four inch display, that's is small in today's standard. im guessing in the near future i'll be holding a seven or even ten inch screen phone against up my ear, hopefully not.

4.99inch is pretty annoying. It is better to call it a 5inch display. LOL

And then we'll have the Note III within the year. There is no way Apple will recover with such hardware because they don't think their fans need them.
