Another group of marketers that have no clue about the African market are trying their book ideas again!!
This is a welcome development, am getting one as soon as its released.
Good job Microsoft, Huawei and my fellow African developers for putting this together.
Like WTF,huawei for africa....we be using highend fones here n u creating a fone with mid range specs for africa, tell me whats so special about that....like who uses huawei here in nigeria.
Why won't Africa have the same spec. and quality as the rest of the world is having?!
What is the meaning of "Huawei 4Africa"?!
oh pliz Microsoft and Huawei I think ur too archaic to think of afrika as a special case that we cannot handle other fons. why dont u keep ur fons to ur selfs we r not intrested.or maybe a better idea, make them and buy them urselfs thank u.
What?, 06 Feb 2013Is it SIM-locked? Asking from Kenya. It should depend on the legislation in your country (Kenya).
In South Africa, for example, it's against the law for the networks to lock any phone to their network - been that way for quite a number of years now, but I can't find the exact date it came into effect.
Afrika is not a dumpin site for low budget/specs phones! U guys @ microsoft/ HUAWEI can do better than that...personaly, I ain't interested in anything HUAWEI has to offer!
Anonymous, 06 Feb 2013you can get for around 10200ksh(118US$) exclusively at safaricom shops. Is it SIM-locked? Asking from Kenya.
is microsoft nuts to think in africa we can afford super smart devices,in my home country of Nigeria we buy some of the most expensive devices on the continent. so microsoft should rethink b4 hitting us with some chinese cheap imitation.
I fail to understand why people are bad mouthing huawei's attempt to provide smart phones. It's really unneccessary- if u want better specs go ahead and buy a lumia, htc or an ativ. As for me, and those with little expendible income, can't wait for this to go on sale in Nyeri-Kenya! It'll most likely be as successful as the first ideos.
I welcome news like this - at least ''deepest, darkest Africa'' isn't being forgotten about.
However, isn't the fact that it has only ''4GB internal memory with microSD card slot'' a problem ?
As is the case with HTC's 8S, you probably also can't move 'apps2sd'.
I'd be interested in comments from anyone who has a WP8 phone with only 4GB internal memory.
Seems we'll have to go with one as Nokia has delayed it's launch of Windows 8 phones in Afrika. I hear they launched yesterday in Nairobi. How much is it going for in Kenya ?
what has Africa got to do with Africa I won't buy it. I will go for a normal wp phone.
smart, 05 Feb 2013512MB RAM? Afrika deserves better dudes! aint buyin itThis is not the resource hungry android we talking here.
512 will run fine on this device!
Tagplays, 05 Feb 2013My friend you need to do your homework. The only unique extra Nokia windows provide is Nokia d... moreits funny asking people to do their homework while u didn't do urs at all.if htc has beats, nokia has dolby headphone and oh, plus wireless charging, pureview cam, nokia maps(the full one),and lots of others.
not to mention the elephant in the room;awesome support(which htc lacks in both wp and android, samsung also has crappy support for wp) and exclusive apps.
Does an 'African Phone' mean a damned down phone with below average Spec? I live in East Africa and I can comfortably afford any of the Lumia WP8!
Africa only deserves "cheap" custom made phones?!?
Right, not all africans are able to afford the expensive Ativ S's, 8X's and Lumias phones; but Micro$oft could very well launch two different Windows Phones for Africa, one with "midspecs" for the budget market, and another one with premium specs for the african execs.
