I won't be among those 500 that's for sure. Keep churning out a new galaxy spin off every week. Galaxy Neutron star, Galaxy Red, Blue, Orange, Moon, Sun, Black hole.

WOW! Impressive!
There are 7 billion people in the world and there are 2 billion "first world" people.
I really can't imagine that huge 500 million number!
Are they going to give away their phones to hobos to achieve that or are people perhaps eating phones instead of talking into them.
Really scary thing is their smartphone Galaxy S series alone will be sold around the 100 million marker.
And all this is only Samsung, what about other manufacturers!

Market saturation. Global market estimation 4 billion pones. Renew rate...? Manufacturer's competitors? Nokia and others. I'm afraid samy' your expectation is very optimistic.

> In reply to Anonymous @ 2013-04-03 20:19 from LixI - click to readto be honest, I've never heard any other company use this type of tactic. It's very deceiving and not accurate. Because some "customers" which happens to be a carrier will actually buy like maybe 1 million, so that doesn't really count. Also yes, some companies do take things back. It's really not accurate. However it is a goal, and nothing wrong with that. But shipped as sold, is very weak and a lame stradegy.

That's the way market works. Once Samsung ships phones, those are SOLD for Samsung. Do you think if a phone dealer shop is unable to sell 100 phones he has in stock, Samsung will take them back??? For Samsung, those are sold.
And this applies to all companies, not only Samsung.

> In reply to applejuice @ 2013-04-03 18:17 from jesI - click to readactually yes it has, being a samsung fan its hard to admit, but yes it has now overtaken galaxy s3, but the s3 is still selling well and considering its a 10 month old phone it is still ONE of the most popular phones to buy currently ranked 3rd, after iphone and, sony, once figures come in from htc im sure samsung will drop to 4th, but still for that long time in the market is quite some achievement

Go ahead an buy an inferior phone just be "be different" or "cool" or "rebel" or whatever you kids do nowadays for whatever stupid reason.

I can guarantee you this: having a slightly different yet inferior smart phone will not improve your pathetic social life. Sorry.

> In reply to Johnny @ 2013-04-03 17:43 from vG@S - click to readplease at least if your going to make stupid comments at least read up on them first, they claim to ship 500 million this year, they already shipped 396 million last year, and 50 million was galaxiy s3, they plan to sell 100 million s4, but i personally think it will be more like 60-70million tops and the figure is not that unreasonable considering it is a 23% increase on sales, which they achieved last year, and as for iphone sales, erm you have not easily beaten samsung at all, they have shipped nearly 58 million to date, just a few million short of apple, and now people are waiting for s4 so sales only now are sales starting to slow down and with the new htc, and sony out reducing it to the 3rd most popular phone STILL on the market, and considering its a 10 month old phone that is STAGGERING
