Apple announces Q1 2013 results, revenue rises, but profits fall - read the full textApple has just announced its Q1 2013 results. Technically, these are its Q2 results as the US financial year does not coincide with the calendar year. But no matter how you call the quarter, it's still interesting to see how Apple has been doing business-wise in the first three months of this year....

A high profit margin means that people pay a prices that are much higher than costs. I do not think a company can remain world leader with such big margins as apple. People simply are getting tired about paying so much more than the costs for apple products. There is already enormous competition and apple is not anymore novelty. Moreover Apple is concentrated on the high income market.... But the real growth is in the billion people with lower income. Android will do wonders there.. Already google talks about the 100 dollar Android phone...That is sooo different from doing expensive & overpriced phones for high income people who may pay a overprice. That has been apple strategy... Not good for being the world leader, good for having enormous people on people who like the flashy pretentious overpriced...

I'm an apple product user and was previously an Andriod user. As to the visual quality, retina display is much more better than that of Android, camera is still better with an iphone, customizability goes to Android (usually the younger people loves customization while professionals likes it to be easy and standard like I do), overall I still prefer apple products, it satisfies my professional and entertainment needs.

> In reply to PL2 @ 2013-04-25 13:27 from p%n8 - click to readApple invented the PDA with their Newton in the late 80s. Palm, Motorola, Nokia and microsoft added mobile phone functionality to the PDA thus creating the SmartPhone. Apple improved upon that and created the touchscreen operated smartphone. Samsung and Google created NOTHING.

You really must have some front to try and take on the likes of Nokia and Motorola who were both making phones years before them.

> In reply to Anonymous @ 2013-04-24 12:11 from IaHc - click to readFrankly that is rubbish. Apple did not invent the smart phone. The likes of Nokia and Motorola were working with mobile devices, back in the 80's, when Apple did not even knwo what a mobile phone was. Now they try to claim copyright and such like. HTC and Nokia both had phones out before Apple that could play music, games and send and receive email. The original iPhone could not ven forward SMS text messages for heavens sake! I owned products by both HTC and Nokia and can thus speak from personal hands on experience.

> In reply to BvO @ 2013-04-24 10:27 from md90 - click to readWhat are you talking about? The only true competitors out there at the moment are iOS vs. Android.

WP8 & Blackberry are minor players, not big enough to stir the pot. The hardware side of the argument isn't really that important. Samsung wins by sheer volume and price competitiveness. ZTE and Huawei however dominate the Chinese markets, and soon will dominate in other lower-end markets.

Apple made the Customer Experience unique. Something that other companies simply haven't managed to do.

Windows is only for gamers and non tech who just want web browsing. That's why tablets eats their profit away.

Apple were the 1st manufactuer to really reinvent the touch screen phone, in terms of how its used, where everything is and the fresh way of how we interact with out phone. I mean even when the 1st iPhone was out, and i had YouTube on it! And yes you could access YouTube on another phone around the same time period...but iPhone has a real App! and since then...all UI's and apps and useability, icons and have been the same/similar as iPhones. Tell me another phone that has had such an impact in the Smartphone world to date? None.

Apple reinvent existing tech (which other companies fail to make it popular) and make them nice to use.
