Google and T-Mobile unleash the G1 for $179 and a two-year contract

Google and T-Mobile unleash the G1 for $179 and a two-year contract - read the full textThat's it folks, the HTC-made T-Mobile G1 is now official with pre-orders opened over at the dedicated T-Mobile website. The device will start shipping in US stores...

"So thanks, but no thanks"?? Excuse me GSMArena, would you please let us, the _customers_, decide?

Personally I don't think this fone is that bad. It may not have the looks of the HTC Touch HD or the iPhone, but from what I've seen it's quite ok... I kind of like the keyboard and its round keys. And if it's as responsive as you'd expect from a Google product (judging by Chrome, Picasa and Google Earth), then I couldn't really care less about the lack of stereo BT or video recording!

The only nice thing: "Built in compass... allowing live 360-degree cityscape browsing just by turning the handset around."

Other than that, sigh...

"So we waited a whole year now just to see a poor iPhone replica with a QWERTY keyboard that doesn't even look half as good. It seems HTC have not put any effort in the design - and even the functionality is flawed. So thanks, but no thanks! Let's see the next one, please!"

It's sad but true... Lets wait the next contenders
- Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1
- Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
- LG Renoir

My 6 month old daughter has a device similar to the G1, it's called Speak & Spell. You can find them at your local toy store.

This phone is garbage as with all the phones T-Mobile has in its selections of handsets. Yet another junk phone!!!! Google should really stick to search engines.....I wonder if I can Google an expression that best describes their software....Googarbage. (trademark pending)
