Apple has never aimed for market share, yet that is the only metric at which Apple is measured.

I guess because it is the only particular way Apple can be made to look bad.

LG is also one of the best in both hardware and design.

LG is poor in marketing strategy.

> In reply to G2 Great2have @ 2013-07-28 10:35 from thaT - click to readDon't make me repeat myself. Sony is not in the list because they haven't release their financial results so IDC didn't include Sony in the analysis. Let me make it clear for you, the analysis only covered Nokia, Samsung, LG, ZTE, Huawei, Apple and Alcatel. Obviously Sony is nowhere seen because it is not covered in this analysis. You get it know? One more thing, Sony's smartphones do sold more than LG's. Read carefully, comment brilliantly.

> In reply to Duel @ 2013-07-26 20:19 from p771 - click to readApple lost 25% of it's market share despite more phones being shipped?!? Apple's done.

They can't innovate and are pinning their hopes on pink and green budget phones with their pastel purple IOS 7 (let's call it the Barbie Collection iPhone). Sure, it will be a hit with teen and college aged girls, but guys won't go near it. Who's going to go to the office carrying around something like that!

My suggestion to GSMArena.
People who never had these phones, like Nokia 3210/3310/3315 or Motorola/Nek/Siemens Phones of 1995- 2005 and PDA Phones like HP Compaq(HTC)/HTC/Nokia/Asus.....etc

MUST NOT COMMENT ON THESE POSTS.. They don't know anything about phones. Majority of these commenters are idiots.
It's Simple
1. Apple make nice Devices but OS sucks. (6/10)
2. Samsung makes nice Devises Nice OS good Hardware, But Quality and durability sucks (8.5/10)
3. Nokia always made best phone but OS sucks. (7/10)
4. Blackberry is nice, but OS is not at Top and not even hardware. (6/10)
5. LG Sucks.. but nicely designed...(5/10)
6. Sony Trying get better, but, Still missing a Competitive Device. (7.5/10)
7. HTC makes Nicely Designed phones, Best Designers since 1997 COMPAQ PDAs'. Almost maximum hardware, OS is cool but features are less than Samsung. (9/10)

What makes them so different is only Marketing.

According to researches.. HTC and Nokia are the only companies who sales over 2-3 Million phones without contracts.

P.S. I had the chance to use all these latest phones.
I kept. HTC One. I liked Galaxy Note 2. but it's materials are just like Chinese phones..

> In reply to killer droid 2.0 @ 2013-07-28 07:45 from RXdj - click to readYeah, they are number one for a reason alright. But it's hardly even close to your given reason. The first and the biggest reason is the fact that Samsung flods the market with devices, from cheap crap to expensive crap. Everywhere you look is one nokia, one icrap, 2 htc, 3 sony and 10 samsung. Second, people are payed well to promote samsung and to sell as many as posible. While samsung pays their employers to make a big fuzz with samsung promotion. The funny part is that once, one guy that was trying to convince me that samsung are the best (i don't know who he tought i was, some kind of amateur... when i was in the market for a great symbian device, the 701) was using Lumia 900. He maybe forgot to hide it, or it was so forced to sell samdungs, he could not cope with other things. Therefore his device was standing nicely on his work table, ringt then hidden in his pants... Toooo late:)). Unbelieveble what people do for money. By the way, i bought that 701 for my girl. Way better then any samcrap i touched in that store, for that money. So, turns out sadung is not that great. But with a bit of money given in the right place, even Micromax (what the hack that that anyway) can be ”the best”... It's not about the device, is about how much money you have to sell it. So stop being sheeps and think for your selfs and for your needs. Not for what others telling you should like, buy and be happy with;).

> In reply to You heard me @ 2013-07-27 00:37 from TSMf - click to readFirst of all, boy, i'm a man. Second: in that period, the smartphone term was vague for you, maybe, cause you probably were 2 years old, i was a bit more, older and i'm preatty sure i know what was in ”that” period. And there were smartphones, and there was true innovations, and there was Nokia against Sony, and there were people fighting over which smartphone is grater. Now, you do more research before criticizing something you've heard only from internet. Now, keep quiet boy and let the grown ups speak!

Sony phones are notorious for having very short battery life. They may look cool and fast, but they don't last a day with heavy use.

> In reply to VCRP @ 2013-07-27 00:52 from Ss@i - click to readMost latest mid and high end smartphones can't play 10 bit hd videos either. Is not a matter old hardware. It's a negligence from CPU makers.

The only smartphones that can play 10 bit hd videos flawlessly are the iPhone 5,Motorola Razr i and Lenovo K900. The Lenovo K900 plays the full hd ones flawlessly too, the Razr i with some minor flaws, and don't know about the iPhone 5.

There is a good progress made by the MX Player developers in this regard and now most high end devices can play these videos acceptably.

Anime viewers should get one of these three good devices.
