I followed an instruction online to uncheck word prediction on the keyboard and also removed animations in developer settings and have limited background processes to 4. This seems to have resolved the issue and the tablet is running very smoothly as of last night

I like the smallest one of the bunch - finally an Asus made tablet that has speakers facing the right direction :) Hopefully Asus will implement this in the next lineup of all their tablets. Shame about all the screens though - who would have thought these would all be at the mediocre 1280x800 resolution apart from the sweet 701T - - that's quite a resolution gap we have here.

Offtopic:
So no Chromebooks for christmas this year from ASUS? I understand that they where ditching the failed WinRT Tablets for Chromebooks.

Ontopic:
Like the 8 inch ASUS tablets, seems that the world and his aunt all wants either 7" or 10" screens but I prefer the "in between" screen sizes, of 8 and 9 inches.
