Nokia will make a killing with this phone. It is interesting and sad, that some people still make good money out of selling Bruce Lee to the world.

Oh, and where is DumbStorm.. ups... Soulstorm to report on this? Probably working down his as to get an iPhone! :)

Yes I want one, no I am not Chinese and at 42, no, I'm not a kid.. Anyone who idolised this man as millions have would no surely wan't one of these (being able to afford one is another matter). I have no doubt that the market that this phone is being pushed to will lap it up.

Why r sum people laughing?? Nokia will sell record number of phones in China and make billions of dollars while u guys r still sittin home, ******* off to daytime tv with your budget Motorola lying on the table. This phone is not made for retailing in western countries. They want to make money by milking a already released product. Do you think Nokia cares what u think?? And if they did then you will find a Nokia N96 Stock Market Crash Edition in a retail store near u soon. I would personally never doubt the financial brains of a company that alone holds more shares of the worldwide handset business then all the other 15 major mobile companies put together. And that is a fact. I can clearly see what Nokia is up to. They are selling a piece of chinese icon and hero history back to the people. Bruce Lee is probably the most famous chinese person in history, and i have never met a chinese person who is not proud of that fact. If you haven't been asleep the last 30 years or something then i have not yet met a boy that at one time or another never hade a Bruce poster, watched one of his movies or tried to copy one of his moves. I would personally not get this phone, cause i use Windows mobile with work, but my 12 year old little brother has nagged his way to making a pre order on the Nokia site. This will be a good christmas present for alot of nagging 12 year olds througout the western world. So i can see Nokia knocking up some amazing profit from this money milking edition.

But I guess "Kill Bill" edition is much butter. An Uma Thurman action figure clad in the same yellow outfit holding a Samurai.

Kill Bill!
Kill Bill!
Kill Bill!

Nokia must have amazing marketers working full time.. this is genius!! Except the people getting this one at full retail price.. it will probably be available with a 24 month contract for like 100 euros like all the other phones in the same pricerange.. Nokia is easily gonna exceed 100 million Bruce Lee retail handsets in mainland China.. but i have no idea how many of this edition will sold to the rest of the world trhu their website.. but in China.. it's gonna go platinum sales due to good network contracts.. genius Nokia! i am very impressed with this company and their stratigies..

Only if jar-jar binks was a national icon and the one of the most famous people in the world that probaly even a village goat knows about.. then yes u ****.. jar-jar would be next..

Brilliant Nokia! Having more then half the worlds phone market they probably knows eaxacty what they are doing. This only China retail handset with a national icon is gonna sell like hot butter toa country with like 1.3 billion people. Even if 5% of the population get's it's still like 65 million handsets. The same would happen in inda if they made a bollywood star edition, In europe or south america with a football icon edition and so on. You see, if Nokia made a Braveheart adition for Scotland they could ony sell limited handset due to population. But this Bruce Lee thing with China is a brilliant marketing strategy. There is a reason that Nokia completely dominates the worlds mobile market, don't forget that.

It was interesting to read all your comments towards the N96 BL Edition.

Being a market leader that it is, I am pretty sure that this is a well-thought plan of the company to reach-out to the Chineses mobile market.

The rationale behind this strategy is to sell the brand as a whole to gain brand recognition. Nokia's current market share in the Chinese market is a tad lower than its global figures.

A tie-up of a brand with a well-known public icon not only associates the brand with the icon but also fosters acceptance of the brand for valuing the country's culture/heritage.

Example: This is a true and tested formula that allowed the NBA to tap China's 200 Million TV viewers when it started importing Chinese basketball players (Yao Ming).

For its financial welfare, the N96 BL could/would of course be sold in limited stocks. The special edition would:
a. entice a consumer to buy the special edition, or
b. gain the consumer's attention for the phone model and buy the non-special edition (plain N96)
c. establish an imagery and association of the brand that will serve as a possible option in the consumer's future prospects in buying a phone.

Marketing...
