Hello people, the Swiss Samsung clearly writes in German that after the (European region locked) phone is first activated with the Swiss SIM card then it can be used also with the SIM cards of other operators in Europe and (of) outside Europe. That means that the phone can be used with whatever SIM card all over the world.
However, this move of Samsung is not logic. Why lock the phone to a region when it can be simply unlocked through first activation with the SIM of the that region? If someone would smuggle or sell phones from an other region, that one would first unlock the phone. How big can be the figure? Most people buy phones from the local operator. So what's the point? It just make Samsung less attractive for customers who travel to other continents and need to change SIM cards.
Where is commonsense?? Whats the benefit of this restriction??
So, buying a phone from Samsung at an airport suddenly becomes rather dodgy.
Many people do this and shouldn't need (if even possible) to activate a device locally just before they fly.
Samsung is playing with fire here and will surely loose consumer confidence, especially among execs, contractors and travellers.
keep bycot for samsung product epecially mobile will be pushed back by LG,iPHONE,Nokia.

Anonymous, 27 Sep 2013You really buying that story from Samsung Switzerland? Its false, the region lock is permanent... moreFully agree. I am sending back my newly bought Galaxy S4 from Europe
Here in Zimbabwe, a Sam S4 costs $1200 from a Samsung dealer shop and only $650-$800 form other non-Samsung shops with Asian and European imports. so Samsung should kiss $ form here good buy. After this no one can resist the Apple now.
Mad-hatter, 27 Sep 2013if they are locked up for particular regions, why are they 'International Versions'? Not yet confirmed but it seems International versions are only for Asia, Russia and a few other countries. Its also still unclear where Australia and New Zealand fits into this.
Seems like there is no region lock for Asia as of yet, but expect there to be soon if there isnt already.
