They're is a clear reason for this one. Htc actually abandoned Windows phone (the credit os with colors and no notification centre Microsoft has been working on in ages with no actual improvement)/ HTC refused to have a dual boot wp/android. Htc actually refused Windows phone even though Microsoft would not charge them for using wp. Nokia was trying to abandon wp too and that's the real reason Microsoft bought it. Now Microsoft can't actually accept the fact that their days as the greatest software company are over so it's using Nokia to actually attack other companies (patents and credit advertisement)
I feel sorry about HTC... I own an htc one and this company is just the best out there. Game Over, Microsoft, step back and keep staring at those colored squares wondering why no one is using Windows phone...

Nokia is entitled to protect its intellectual property. Jealousy is not a factor since Nokia still makes the best phones in the world and would've still been number 1 with a bit of better luck.

Microsoft Nokia cottoning on to Apple's use of patent suites as an effective tool in the advertising/PR armoury.
Is it about patent licensing/royalties ? Judged on the tiny sums involved, not even slightly.
Is it about free advertising column inches ?
Does a whale poop in the ocean ?

It's simple. Nokia wants to buy HTC or hollow it and sell it to Microsoft.
