This phone is large given its screen size, if cannot achieve it with camera / waterproof .. then don call it compact..

Why not mention any other waterproof phone or any of the other phones with an above average camera sensor n then compare dimensions.
There is a.reason why the phone is that size n weight n its VERY compact for what it offers. Those with common sense knows this
Silas, 07 Jan 2014Now we are talking. apple finally has a challenger from the Android landscapeIm a long time android user but for now i would choose iphone 5s over this, for many reasons.
First, the bezels, if this phone had used the compact frame of Xperia Z it would be 3mm shorter and 3mm narrower, and much lighter in weight, except from the thickness it would have been compareable to iPhone 5s. But its not using a slim lightweight frame, quite the opposite.
Second, KitKat is a terrible Android version where you can litterally feel its getting hard to breathe because Google is tightening things up to force you into their services. Sony is known to be very close to the stock android experience and may follow Google on their new philosophy which is "bite the pillow, google is coming in dry".
At least i want to see KitKat for Z1 Compact before i buy one, i want to see that Hangouts, Google Now and Google+ can be deactivated and that i dont have to visit Play Store to get basic core functionality like SMS/MMS.
Sony is a real solid manufacturer..and I like their quality. That said..what's the point of a 4.3" phone if the dimensions of the phone is almost as big as a 5" phone?
Sony Xperia Z1 Compact:
127 x 64.9 x 9.5 mm, 137g
Screen size: 4.3 inches
137.4 x 68.2 x 9.3 mm, 143g
Screen size: 4.7 inches (with dual stereo speakers included)
Samsung Galaxy S4:
136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm, 130g
Screen size: 5.0 inches
LG Nexus 5:
137.9 x 69.2 x 8.6 mm, 130g
Screen size: 4.95 inches
A phone with a much smaller screen size should mean significantly easier one hand usage..but as you can see..it's not the case here.
ermond12, 07 Jan 2014So this will have a better screen than Z1?Yes, since Z1 Compact and Z Ultra has lower pixel density than Z1 it is easier to make the electrodes in-plane. This was expected and has been posted about before (by me in particular).
Sonys current production lines arent yet equipped for manufacturing IPS panels with very small pixels like the Z1 has, you can see this problem also at LG, the G Pro was 5.5 inch because LG could not yet manufacture IPS panels with smaller pixels. Sharp is currently the number one in making ultrahigh pixel density in wide viewing angle displays, so superior that even Samsung decided to buy 1440p displays from them instead of manufacturing on their own, because they dont have the ability.
Now we are talking. apple finally has a challenger from the Android landscape
So, no z1 mini, no z1c (yeah it sounds like cheap and Apple copy), but Z1 compact. Since 'mini' is too mainstream, right? Well its true 'mini' makes me feel like 'minimum' specs so I think its not so bad idea to put word compact in this model...p.s so codename Amami is this phone right? Then where's Z1S, which may be the Sirious?
Anonymous, 07 Jan 2014Micromax can make cheap phones.. much much cheaper then moto x.
And they came with sd slots.Micromax is not a phone maker.
they just put their logo on Chinese cheap phones
what about ANT+ support? Hope they didn't cut that compared to Z1 because the Compact would make a perfect sports phone with waterproofing, compact size and ANT+ support.

it's the z1f released by ntt docomo (aka z1 mini)

popye, 07 Jan 2014Google phones don't have card slot because Android does not support SD cards. Android support sd card or even external hard drive... Devices with sd card slot must pay some money to microsoft.. For using their FAT32/NTFS format... If some devices dont have sd card slot it mean dont want to pay some money to microsoft and a quite cheaper for consumer
Anonymous, 07 Jan 2014Samsung / Sony better .. got sd slots. Moto X is the biggest flop without slots.Google phones don't have card slot because Android does not support SD cards.
