Toshiba unleashes the TG01 - the uber-smartphone to rule them all - read the full textMaking a large step from a regular WinMo PocketPC to a heavily armored MID (Mobile Internet Device), Toshiba today launched the TG01 PocketPC. Packed with a 4.1" WVGA screen and measuring only 9.9 mm, the Toshiba TG01 certainly sounds like an impressive device, if not revolutionary. The Toshiba...

After Toshiba bailed on HD-DVD I called and asked about the premium I paid for it...fell on deaf ears. Don't trust them to stand by their products. If you don't believe me, go ahead and buy this.

Lines for a winmo phone? At last people lining up for a smartphone, not for an Igadget. Great!

Stop dreaming: battery life of this device will never be satisfying! It can't - not in 2009!

Very nice looking device. Still, Windows is not ready for Touch Screen to compete with iPhone. And, higher the screen will be, higher will be power consumption. Toshiba should think and take care off the battery life regarding this device. Otherwise, they'll make exactly the same error as Sony Ericsson with their unbelievable P910i (lack of long battery life).

Cheers.

While this is a neat looking smartphone it still suffers from really small buttons and widgets. look at how tiny the icons are in the top right of the screen. The guy in the vid has trouble hitting the speaker icon. Ridiculous.

> In reply to respa @ 2009-02-05 06:18 from L0@a - click to readI believe, by design, Windows Mobile is not designed for capacitive screens. While HTC and Acer introduced their own UI, it covers only certain areas. The key areas, messaging, e-mails, settings, etc is still oriented towards stylus which means resistive. Capacitive screens will probably come to Windows Mobile only from WM7 onwards if the WM roadmap circulating around is true. That said, there's nothing stopping capacitive screens in WinMo. Its just not optimal given WM structure.

2009 PDA Phones are capable to run Win XP.

Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional
64 MB of RAM minimum supported; may limit performance and some features
300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required
1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space
Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor

But those specs are for PC hardware, not mobile hardware.

Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional on mobile phones:
512 MB DDR RAM
1Ghz CPU
5" or higher WVGA touch screen with dedicated GPU.
Dedicated SPU (Sound)
Standard hardware keyboard.

For some reason corporations spoon feed us with technology - this is already outdated and naturally the rest of the industry is even slower to release their best models.

I hope finally there will be phones under 10mm thickness and decent screen.

The remaining tech delays are the :

- OS: WinMo just horrible

- battery performance

I guess they just want us to buy new phones every x months - producing tons of toxic waste worldwide.

But... I drooled after Omnia, I drooled after Touch Pro, I drooled after Touch HD, I drooled after Eten Glofiish series...
Let's wait till summer... I don't need to be first owner of this device in my country... ;)
