Design is not good and in India, Oppo has been pricing their phones way too much.

It's the useless wastes of spaces sitting in marketing departments and exec management positions or even the board members. These useless vision lacking old coats are the ones who approve even push for design changes to the designs already proposed by the I.D engineers.
This is as pathetic as a chef telling a surgeon "hey let's change the way you connect them veins I have a better idea". You hire an expert and then tell them what to do when you are not even from that field. It's a sick joke really.
This is no different when it comes to other departments of engineering too. I can tell you I face the same at my company everytime. I do physical implementation for ASICs. I too can have a lot of original ideas but we have learnt not to be too hopeful of getting encouraged or even allowed the freedom to express ours ideas. We all encounter various levels of red tape.
Either it's the ignoramus managers who will go 'oh no that's going to cost us more time to manage and more resources, or the program manager looking at it simply in terms of man hours and resources or the even the Staff/MTS engineers playing out their little ego trips as they feel threatened that some recent grad or junior engineer came up with an idea that they didn't think of. Mind you this is all apart from the usual snowballing by higher management and marketing departments. So your ideas can be great, even down right ground breaking, but most of the time if you are not higher up in the ranking order your ideas are highly likely to be squashed.
Young grads, like I once was, have grand dreams of making a difference and changing the world. Unfortunately that's not how things work out in the real industry.

I like Oppo's ambition as a company, that said, their company is severely lacking talented industrial designers.
