Anonymous, 27 Feb 2014Hi Samsung hater, please tell me how many countries had the SD 800 version available? All the mature typical high end markets, like S.Korea and western europe. The sd600 version was the shortest lived flagship ever in those markets, esp in S.Korea.
imparanoic, 28 Feb 2014Digital noise cancellation, new screen, more ramAll barely noticeable internals. Big wowzers! So what. Who doesn't and hasn't already done this for years?
I want Sony to succeed - but they need to INNOVATE continuously. Refining old style is not enough in this game. See what's happening to crApple.
Anonymous, 28 Feb 2014I think I know why Sony is doing this. I think its motivated by the Japanese market, not the ... moreJapanese are fashionable people, in Tokyo to be exact, I heard that news, they want 4 months exactly, yes it is! because some Japs can buy 2 or 3 phones a year. they can afford it. There are other brands over there, as well like Fujitsu and Sharp.
Torero, 27 Feb 2014Why mess with a design that's already impressive? If new design is what you call an upgrade th... moreDisagree - S5 has incorporated hardware changes throughout (water proofing, fingerprint reader, heart rate monitor). Z1 & Z2 are virtually identical. Oversized top and bottom bezels & hard angles, slippy glass back = poor ergonomic design imo.
Another good example of real innovation is LG's back button/s.
Sony are just bringing barely noticeable internals & software updates.
As they say in Barcelona "RIPo OFFo"! ;)
As long as they keep updating older models as they should I like the idea as I will be able to get a Z1or maybe Zero now cheaper when my contract ends in Aug.
just have a Z last month, I might upgrade when full 64-bit support comes out.
some people have both flagships
some people own iphone and a android flagship.
Good thing i sold my Z1 and bought a G2. Bye bye Sony. Never again. Ugly screen, big bezels and heavy weight. You really should update everything in your flagship. Why not make it every 2 months. Lol.
So it seems like not only Samsung, Nokia, LG and other OEMs spamming the market with lots of "flagships". Sony will be doing so too.
I think I know why Sony is doing this. I think its motivated by the Japanese market, not the US market. I remember hearing a while back that Sony was having a trouble making a profit on its phones in Japan. By the time they barely broke even people would get bored of the old phone and demand a new one. So perhaps this decision was influenced by that. Maybe the phones will do better if they're launched in both countries. Idk, but it's a possible explanation.

Why does that make you feel bad?
If its your desire to stay updated,
Shouldn't the contract and/or your financial situation be the blame for the restriction to stay updated?
Whats the point blaming Sony?
Every six months a new flagship? If you have to do at least two years with your phone, you will be 4 flagships behind the tine you can renew your phone on contract... ridiculous...

If its a "fashion thing" I'd have to buy a new phone at least every 6 month.

Sony has done it again, I always hated sony for creating non standard options like memory sticks instead of SD cards just to sell their own brand and now Z2 does not come with headphone and needs special sony headphone costing about 60euros to use noise cancelling feature of Z2. From a very likely buyer this time I went to other side deciding against it.
