Thw whole purpose of this law is to reduce waste. Most of the producers already have the standard micro USB as a charger\data transfer port so they will suffer no harm. As stated in several post here, only Apple, Asus and maybe some specific products will have problems. As flagships are released every year, there will be no problem for future models to have micro USB as a standard. The real problem is that phones will still be allowed to have proprietary charging/data transfer slots and they will have to came with a micro USB\proprietary slot adapter or not. To reach the purpose of this law it's obvious that no brand commercialized in UE should have propietary slots just microUSB slots. this will reduce the waste and allow to reuse old chargers and will not generate additional waste (the adapters). But in this way Apple, Asus and others brands who make money form selling proprietary chargers will lose a lot.
Ethos-Evoss, 17 Mar 2014I dont understand apple why the made one end of cable different and other end normal usb ??? w... moreSharpest knife in the drawer, no doubt. Is the charger the only thing you connect to an iphone? Ever heard about accessories? This may come as a surprise to you but you do NOT connect iphone accessories with a USB cable, thats what the Lightning connector is for, see?
Ethos-Evoss, 17 Mar 2014I dont understand apple why the made one end of cable different and other end normal usb ??? w... moreBecause if they make both ends Lightning you won't be able to connect their product to your pc.
I dont understand apple why the made one end of cable different and other end normal usb ??? why they didn't make both ends in their lightning ??!?!
this is nonsense .. then lightning is just useless it was made just make money ..
what happens when we discover new technology that can significantly reduce charging times?
If I can say something about this !
I totaly agree this and this already been on scene already some time .. And it is already going the right way ! Almost all manufs. (especially top edge smartphone manufs.)implemented micro USB into phones already ..
EEEXEEEEPT one and u know guys what am taking bout.. it iis arogaant aaapleee !! horrible what is even more disgusting they made adaptor to micro usb but they been so cheeky that they put it on sale for ridiculous money .. BUT THIS adapter/reduction SUPPOSED to be free OR supplied in EVERY box with every their device !!! As they didn't make this happen they must pay now ..
Raker, 17 Mar 2014i still have that phone raza v9that is razr2 v8/v9 my ex had it and i was calling it shovel :D but yes there was micro usb already long time ago proper manufacturer !
no any lightings or thunderbolds storms nothing like that ..
there will be usb but flippable simmilar to apples
Oncom, 17 Mar 2014Apple will offer a usb to apple connector converter which user has to pay very expensive. That... moreThat depends on technicalities. EU might push this law in such a way Apple will either need to change lightning to USB altogether or provide an adapter in the box with every new product - that would be the most sensible way to go, in my opinion. The same goes for Nokia's Asha line and some tablets with proprietary charge sockets (some Asus models for example).
Anonymous, 17 Mar 2014so, there's at least 12 apple fanboys in EU parliament.lol
What happens if new and better technology comes along? ie miscro-usb 3.0 / lightning chargers?
2011 to at least 2017. What an extreme timeframe for such a minute thing!!!
I wonder if anyone still uses MicroUsb in 2017, or it has long been replaced with something smarter (perhaps even wireless charging).... So we might all need an adapter....
Company who refuse to use a universal charger cannot have their device sold in that country :D
Apple will offer a usb to apple connector converter which user has to pay very expensive. That b*st*rd.
