ZXcorr, 21 Mar 2014If true, this is great. Everyone just needs to better their optics. 8 MP is a good resolution.... moreJust don't forget it is a good resolution as long as they can pull it off and apple has actually done it with their 5s. Even if you make a 90mpx camera and you work shit on the optimizing the technology it will fail into getting good photos/ videos
Tom-Helge, 21 Mar 2014The thing is that when others like Samsung and Sony can make 13,16 and 20 megapixels cameras w... moreGreat cameras?? Please get any android phone currently onnthe market and compare its camera with iPhone 5s. If you are smart enough to tweak and invest on the technology behind the camera and not just increase the megapixel count that anybody can just do like Samsung and other brands have done.. 15 % bigger pixels dual tone flash amazing optics and aperture of you pull that off be it apple or someone else I applaud you but with the 5s apple really raised the bar for amazing cameras on smartphones. They don't even use optical image stabilization but have spent time into developing optimal software and it works better than most smartphones with ois. From android phones I really liked the G2 camera actually it was pretty good too. Lets see how the new z2 when it lands on the market how well it does. Given current sony's commitment in smartphones I think it will be something good. As per your claim that apple is not innovating in camera it is the whole opposite other most oems are just increasing the megapixel count for marketing issues instead of spending time on its technology. Just buying the sensor and stuffing it on their phones. And marketing its number to people who know nothing about camera quality.
I agree with sticking with the current screen resolutions for now till 4k become norm, but companies are looking to one up their competition and that's what you need when you got juggernauts Apple and Sumsung. To take advantage when they are lacking cause of all the profits.
If true, this is great. Everyone just needs to better their optics. 8 MP is a good resolution.
I have the same opinion regarding screen resolution as well. 720p is good resolutions for handheld devices. 1080p is already a little bit much, IMO. Until 4K TVs are widespread among households, then I think everyone should just stick with 720p and 1080p for handheld.
Tom-Helge, 21 Mar 2014Again, Apple is ridiculous and are still living in the stoneage and at the same time their use... moreDid you know that an Apple iPhone 5s' manufacturing cost is lower than Samsung Galaxy S4's.
Why are you guys discussing this already?
Have any of you seen some pictures taken with the iphone 6 camera? MP does say nothing.
Just wait it out. simple as that.
Why do we have to fight about everything? If somebody does not mind apple keeping 8MP, don't attack them for it, but respect their opinion and personal interest.
Anonymous, 21 Mar 2014Everyone who thinks that the quality of a camera is determined by megapixels is just an ignora... moreThe thing is that when others like Samsung and Sony can make 13,16 and 20 megapixels cameras while still having really really great quality, then why can't Apple do it?
Just because Apple is handicapped and can't figure out how to use new technologies, it doesn't mean they have to cripple their phones just because of that.
Apple should rather seek professional help if they can't figure out how to make great cameras with great optics with 13, 16 or 20 megapixels resolution. And they also needs help to get out of the stoneage bubble they are living in.
8mp can stay a while again,in my opinion.
Their iPad camera sports a 5mp camera and still takes some decent quality pictures.
I don't think the mp counts as much as the quality of the lens.
Even the Nokia lumia 920 takes some really nice pictures with a 8mp pureview camera.
Everyone who thinks that the quality of a camera is determined by megapixels is just an ignorant douchehole who tries to compesate for what he lacks with numbers and knows nothing about real camera quality. IPhone 5s is already one of the top 2 cameras already on the market and has the captures the most accurate colors. And it's pixel density size is 15 % larger than regular pixels.
Anonymous, 21 Mar 2014Lower the resolution in the settings, if you don't like it being so high?
Dude, you have no... moreThis has nothing to do with how technology works as this is ALL about freedom to choose yourself on what resolution you want to take pictures in.
Someone likes 8 megapixels and someone likes 16 and 20 megapixels cameras. Why not let peoples have the freedom to choose the resolution on the camera rather than some nazi companies have to choose and decide over you on what's best resolution for you?
Sure, i have 13 megapixels camera on my Galaxy S4, but Samsung isn't nazi, so they let me choose lower resolutions if i want smaller pictures.
I can choose between 13M, Wide 9.6M, 8M, Wide 6M and Wide 2M. M stands for Megapixels and W is for 16:9.
Apple seriously need t pull their finger out and get the specs what the new sony xperia phones have, A water proof iphone?!?! just think about the craziness of tht... An 8mega pixel camera simply just isn't gonna be good enough, sonys are pulling the stops out with their unlimited pixels on their Z series, iphones have not really changed in many years of their so called upgraded handsets, lets be fair, but they are well known in the manufacture industry and also a lot of ppl stick to what they know, and lets face it, ALOT of people know Apple and the Iphone products, its not changing enough, im a apple fan but I sadly feel if they dnt pull it out the bag when they do launch the Iphone this summer, a lot of people will be changing to a different brand of handset, and lets fsce it, Its already been proven tht the Iphone 5c and the Iphone 5s simply haven't sld as good as apple originally expected. O2 as a phone company had the handsets at more then £40 a month, now you can get the iphone 5c 16gb @ £28 a month, and the iphone 5s 16gb @ £38 per month, on a refresh plan, the uphone 5c is £15 credit agreement, this is £360 you could end up walkin away with the phone for, and the Iphone 5s credit agreement is £20 per month, this is £480 you could walk away with the phone for ... anyone else agree with me,
Tom-Helge, 21 Mar 2014And to continue from my last comment....
If the Apple users doesn't like such big resolutio... moreLower the resolution in the settings, if you don't like it being so high?
Dude, you have no clue how the technology works.
I use a very decent 13MP Android with a 1.8 lens, but generally my photos look worse than those from an iPhone 5S on a large screen TV.
Apple does put quite a bit of thought in their products and in this case I'd wait and see what the end product is, before passing silly judgment based on pixel count.
MORE MEGAPIXELS the haters cry.
As said before, most people will simply post photos to Facebook or another social networking site, and videos to Youtube.
You're an idiot if you expect to take professional photographs with a phone. Even Nokia's best Lumia pales in comparison to modern purpose-built cameras.
The megapixel race is over folks. Innovation is coming from the likes of HTC and Apple, who are improving on lenses.
I fail to understand why Apple always like to lag behind with a more than half a decade old technology, for example, this time it's about am 8 mp camera. You know something Apple, even my Nokia N86 had an 8 mo camera and that was in 2009 and now we are in 2014. Please Wake Up.
Come on Apple, Grow Up.
does anyone has educated guess on why sony is going from 1/2.3" sensor to 1/2.4" for its next flagship?
It's enough actually. My 925 makes awesome photos with 8MP, but since iPhone price is closer to 1020 and 1520, I'd expect it to improve the camera a little. Oversampling is awesome :D
