S4 and S5 are, and they are a year apart, Note 3 and Note 4 will be a year apart as well.
It's to fast what Sony is doing. hurting it's own sales. I love the Z1 Compact, but the Z2 Compact will be >5% upgrade of the Z1 Compact, just like the Z2 is >5% upgrade of the Z1.
People are screaming S5 and One M8 bring nothing new compared to S4 and One M7, but still way more then what Sony is doing whit it's Z's. It's just to fast, they should slow down a bit. They used to be ways behind till they released Xperia Z, but now they are steamrolling over everyone, including themselves.
Can a smartphone get more perfect than a complete Z2 in a smaller compact version...guess not! Z2 Compact will be best ever!

Take for example xperia z, p, s, sl, TX, arc s, neo v, ray. If have any of those, those phones look classy. Their chipsets are old but They still look good and functional.

Look at samsung, the S-series lost pace in the autumn.
A lot of people actually went for Note, rather than S3/S4, as that was really the top of the line from Sasung, during the holliday season.
And you really need a top end device to kick off sales, in the first half of the year, so you cant just hold that launch off till the autumn.
Four event per year makes sense. First to relese your flagship, like Z from Sony, and S from samsung.
Next event, release teh variants of that flagship, like Ultra or Note, and mini (probably with no updates to CPU/GPU, to not steal attention from the flagship, but there could be other tech updates, like Zoom having a better camera, and Notes with its pen, and perhaps using them as testbeds, like wrap around screens, extra sensors, or fingerprint sensor built in to the screen).
Sony is really doing impressive movements till xperia Z. However, it has some problems with time management. Do you know that Z1 Compact was just put for sale in many countries and now there are some speculations on Z2 Compact. How do you think this is gonna affect the sales for Z1 Compact? Good improvements but bad time management!

You buy something that is best suited to your needs and budget --->today. If you keep holding off for the next best thing you will never buy anything.

It's really tough to appreciate this 6 month flagship renewal cycle Sony has put into place. Seein' how, regardless if you're buying the device outright, or on contract? You can't help the feeling that you're investing into a product that will be obsolete in comparison to a newer device in the coming months.
So this news is kinda bitter sweet?
it will have a 4,5" - 4,6" display, because of power button size and the dotted line.
It should have 4,5" - 4,6". I calculated it with the power button size.
Make it 4.5" but same dimension as that of z1 compact
Smaller bezels will be the selling point of this phone
At 4.5" 720HD screen will give 326 PPI which is already good. There is no need for 1080p it only sacrifices battery life unless the gains in new tech on the smaller 1080p panel is worth it.
Please... do it 720p, not 1080p. I prefer lower ppi and better battery! It will be a killer phone!
no problem with 4.5 inch if it has the same size as z1 compact.
4.5" with FullHD and stereospeakers Z2-like and it is the perfect middlesized phone.
and noise cancellation and 4k video rec?
If it will have a 4.5 inch screen this will be my next phone ;)
