That's Indian Govenment. No accountability about the 7 billion. However the ministers still havent received their share and so want more to deposit in their swiss accounts. Its a developed nation with immature uneducated people running the finances.
Hey MS get smart about this. India works on bribery, everyone wants a bribe, there is no honesty. How do I know because every Indian friend of mine complains about the same damn thing. Nothing runs in that country without bribing. So get on it, and when you get caught bribing, bribe some more it'll get you out of it.
sound pretty much like the local govt in Spain.
they too wanna screw business for the short term without taking into account the long term damage. load of corruption somewhere down the line..

When at the time Nokia were not actually doing anything illegal. I cannot agree with that on any level. If I were Nokia I would close the plant down too.

Also, hunger for money is really strong is developing countries compared to developed countries. Simply because we lack in that. This develops a money oriented mindset in society and we are forced to learn the mantra 'Money is Everything'
Even if some corrupt official earns much money that mindset just doesn't go away, which is a problem. They never get satisfied.

Although a sad state but people are striving for the betterment.
This is indeed a bad news... I'm sure that this will scare away many foreign investors. Really bad for a growing import heavy economy like India.
But I'd like to mention that, this is not entirely Indian Govt's fault. Mistakes happened from both the sides.
First, Nokia found a loophole to evade tax. While they were right from their side, when Tax officials noticed this they closed the loophole so that Nokia would require to play the taxes. But Nokia didn't pay any taxes after that. All this happened in the good days of Nokia, so the evaded tax amount grew large.
Now Indian tax officials want the difference, along with interest. Since this accounts for 6-year worth of money the figure translates into a ridiculously large amount. Not at all affordable for Nokia in current state. Indian tax office is at fault too, because question rises, what they had been doing in last 6 years? They could have issued notices much before so that the evasion gets under control as soon as detected.
Any way, a sad day for Nokia, and also Indian business.
No and in no way would I personally try to defend tax evasion but trying to freeze accounts for taxes that are not even owed yet is a bit ridiculous. It's a bit like I will put you in prison for an offence and then once released immediately re-arrest you on the grounds that you might offend again in the future. Using that logic no one would ever be released. It hardly portrays the country in a good light to potential investors and companies that might want to go there in the future. There is also another cold harsh reality aspect to this like it or not. The Indian government may now end up losing far more than if they were a bit more sensible about this.
nokia is the best company of india

but ruling will often be in favor of government unless you get judge that disagrees
Yeah, so Nokia should open a factory in Shenzen like every other respected 1st world to 3rd world ; world wide mobile spredead company.
Corrupt countries like India and Philippines are crazy about tax because politicians steal the money of the people.
Being indian i must say indian government are shit and corrupted they all want money from different sources so they can live with standard living and we bloody fool should keep paying all tax
All of this bad situation of Nokia caused by operating systems of their phones ! if NOKIA made Android phones they could have good situation now ! see Huawei , Samsung , Sony and others that produce android phones and have good situation !
Do u mean the government shouldn't go behind the companies which are evading taxes and take stringent measures against them??
