If Samsung Electrical find a benefit in supporting this tech from Apple, they will.
And it sounds like their devices are already built with home automation functionality - so it would be little effort for them to make a few adjustments to allow Apple's solution. It would just make the devices a bit more attractive for potential buyers.
Apple will market their solution well - and that's why I think it'll succeed.
I hadn't heard that Samsung were working with home automation until today - it came as a surprise.
You'll know when Apple do though. Because there'll be a billion ads on TV. lolz.

With android holding 70+% of the market will manufacturers willingly make their devices more expensive with a technology that can only be sold to a minority (iOS) customers?

The manufacturing arms for Samsung's whitegoods and their phones are vastly different.
Samsung Appliances would benefit greatly from such a partnership, hence I think you'll see their whitegoods have apple compatibility.

As others have pointed out, Google have already taken steps towards this.
But I think Apple have a big advantage in both marketing, and their tight well-controlled iOS ecosystem.
A combination of these two is going to bring Home Automation into the mainstream, and the first that many people will ever see of Home Automation - is Apple's solution.
