Apple developed its own mobile Operating system code that works with capacitive screens. Multi-touch code was not developed by apple. it has been around for over 20 years although not available to costumers

I can tell you now that there is no slowing down in iPhone sales, they continue to walk out the door more and more people are starting to want them, not based on websites like this but on seeing the experiences of their friends.

recording video,bluetooth file tranfering ,Cutting and pasting,zooming on the camera..things like that
and then they gave the SDKs to the public to use

If you don't need the "connection" just buy a radio.
