5800 is not suppose to be a iphone killer, thats just the buzz going round. This is Nokia's first touch screen phone that is going to reach as many people as possible at a competitive price, no high contracts and even a cheap if you buy the handset without a contract.
To be honest I prefer the 5800 its lighter and a big improvement on previous S60 software, setting up is a breeze and works great on the ovi store, even my eght year old daughter can use it.
5800 is lighter and smaller by volume than the iphone 3G.
5800 - weight 109g, Volume 83cc. iphone 3G - Weight 133 g Volume 4.7 us oz thats 138.99cc.
Plus if you drop the iphone onto a hard surface its more likely to break something inside due to all that weight.
I have the 5800 and am very happy with it. Will buy the silicon cover+ protective screen immediately. Overall, great features and good build quality for the money. Yes, thicker than iPhone but ergonomics are still excellent and it remains quite light for its screen size. Removable battery, high resolution, handwriting recognition, Strong GPS w/MAPS, WiFi, etc. With the Nokia e-mail just available it's pretty slick. Not an iPhone killer...but serious competition given price point. Nokia did a fine job with the 5800.
This phone is the biggest load of rubbish out, Nokia have tried to copy the Iphone & BB Storm, it doesn't work, I've got a 16Gb Class 6 MC in and it is so S...L....O....W.
Do yourselves a favour wait for the Omnia HD.
This phone is rilly great.I ges this should be the second touch screen phone Nokia has made.I love this phone so much with a passion.Especially great sound it has and also, its an xpress music phone.
I think that this smart phone starts a revelution in touch phones
i'll buy it as soon as posible
Leeroy, 16 May 2009Lol are you people stupid, you acting as if its the biggest phone in the world when its clearl... moreIt's 15.5 vs 12.3mm, 25% thicker you could stack 5 iPhones in the same space as 4 5800's.
It does make a difference.
Anonymous, 16 May 2009I can have my iphone in a pair of suit trousers and you cant tell its there. With a 5800, its ... moreLol are you people stupid, you acting as if its the biggest phone in the world when its clearly not, be real! Its hardly thicker than the iphone , its smaller end of story, stupid retards
Erick, 15 May 2009This will appeal to those who like a contract, don't mind the handset most probably having bee... moreThat would be illegal i guess. I think there's a law that forbids a cellphone to be rigged so it can only be used on 1 network. i don't know really sure about the uk, but it would suprise me if there isn't.
This 5800 almost perfect, but the other mobile still better than this.I till waiting new model for nokia n series that full touch screen.
[deleted post]I can have my iphone in a pair of suit trousers and you cant tell its there. With a 5800, its becomes really uncomfortable because its so thick. So yes, it is a brick.
And no, looking at iPhone sales vs. 5800 sales, Nokia quite clearly does not win.
Nokia is finally falling... even giants find their matches... here comes the awake of the sleeping giants... LG and SAMSUNG...
[deleted post]The 5800 is fat compared to an iPhone, it's harder to slide into a pocket.
You can't even use the "Comes with Music" songs for ringtones, that's what I like about my iPhone, I can make my own unique ringtones from my music, none of my mates can leech them off me via Bluetooth, which I like because I am the only person on earth with my tones.
This will appeal to those who like a contract, don't mind the handset most probably having been tampered with softwarewise to suit the network operator, and are prepared to accept that due to the digital rights management limitations of the comes with music service they will only be able to listen to the tracks downloaded on their mobile and pc. Bear in mind that the total cost of this two year deal is £600 plus calls, etc. An alternative would be to buy the device for £249.99 SIM free from Nokia leaving you with £350 for your SIM and music purchases.
