This is much to do about nothing.
I've owned about 20 smartphones over the past 5 years (including several of the iphone models) and I've never had one scratch on any of the screens.
I can't believe I'm the only one.
This sounds like another marketing gimmick to get the iphone lemmings to oooohhh and ahhhhh about nothing.
AnonD-183154, 15 Aug 2014Wow, most Android fans don't even know how Gorilla Glass is made. Kinda explains why they are ... moreMost Android fans know how Gorilla Glass is made. That is why they are android fans in the first place and not iPhone sheep, who know nothing about mobile phones and only buy whatever crap Apple serves them. Both Gorilla Glass and the manufacturers which use its products never hide the fact that Gorilla Glass is just multiple layers of tempered glass layered together with plastic films in between and fluorite coating on top. Apple however I am sure that when it releases the next iPhone will boast about their sapphire displays without mentioning anything about replacing only the top layer tempered glass with sapphire crystal while keeping rest of the formula the same.
What don't you understand? If Apple uses a cheaper glass at the base of the display, and then laminates it with sapphire closer to the top, it is definitely not the same as using only sapphire. This has nothing to do with android fans trying to undermine apple, by trying to spin something negative out of this article. Can you understand what you are reading? Do you know how to read in the first place? Check you IQ!!!
aappllee making every one fool that all....
chip trick, big day and let people wail for trash....i am just telling everyone this is apples chip trick to all of his customer
Even the whole manufactured sapphires are never expensive in the first place. Let alone the thine layer of it.
It's just another typical fruit marketing to fool people thinking apple devices are justified to cost RIDICULOUSLY more.
Bad Apple, 15 Aug 2014Apple using cheap tricks to deceive their customers. So in the end it's not a sapphire display... moreWell if that mahogany laminate is like this and makes it stronger and more scratch resistant than most of what's on the market today, then I'd say it's pretty darn good. Also, where on earth did Apple advertise that they are using sapphire in their display? You iHaters are so obsessed with Apple rumors you don't even know what is real and just rumor.
Anonymous, 15 Aug 2014But it comes with defects, even if they were small. Shut up.No you shut up! There's no product in the world premium or cheap it maybe that is foolproof. Have you even thought of warranty? Where in the world did you came from? Is basic education even available there? Geez!
Anonymous, 15 Aug 2014bunch of android fans (fandroids) trying to undermine apple again, by trying to spin something... moreAfter several years of throwing litigations left and right, Apple undeniably generated so much hate. So, people who learned to hate that fruity company will do whatever to comment anything negative against them.
Apple using cheap tricks to deceive their customers. So in the end it's not a sapphire display as they are advertising, it's just like buying wood thinking it's mahogany, paying a premium price tag for it and after receiving it you realize it's MDF with a thin mahogany laminate over it. Nicely done Apple, charging ridiculous prices for it's products saying it's made of the best materials in the industry but it's just cheap stuff.
bunch of android fans (fandroids) trying to undermine apple again, by trying to spin something negative out of this article.
get your facts straight you clowns. Apple found a cost effective way to make a sapphire glass and we are complaining?? actually if your an android fan you guys wouldn't care anyways cause you guys would not have any intentions of buying it right? So why are you guys commenting? If your here with intentions "complaining" isn't it fall under the category of trolling??
AnonD-277756, 15 Aug 2014Actually, if you know your chemistry and geology, its right on target. No one talking about the aluminum oxide bit of his question. I'm talking about his implication that it is a simple and inexpensive matter to develop and execute a process of laminating glass with aluminum oxide.
Anonymous, 15 Aug 2014Another stupid question of the day. This one ranks up there with the Cupertino one. Actually, if you know your chemistry and geology, its right on target.
Nathillien, 15 Aug 2014Sapphire? It is just a aluminium oxide - why should it be expensive to put a layer on top of ... moreAnother stupid question of the day. This one ranks up there with the Cupertino one.
Sapphire?
It is just a aluminium oxide - why should it be expensive to put a layer on top of the glass?
Contract, 15 Aug 2014This is another expose by Gsmarena proving...
"A lie isn't a lie until someone else know... moreIf you are going to write so much make sure you get your facts straight.
iPhone 4.7"'s battery has been rumored as 1800-2100 mAh and A8 is a 20nm SOC. Battery will last longer even at the low 1800 end.
$850 & $1012 are rumored Chinese internet pre-order price. China have high tax on high-end items and pre-order is even more expensive.
The screen is not sapphire coated. The screen is Sapphire crystal laminated. Go read my post above on what's lamination.
Apple Lupin, 15 Aug 2014"...Cupertino-based tech manufacturer..." What country is Cupertino? Samsung is ... moreI think the point he was making is that other manufacturers are referred to by their country, ie Korean, Finnish etc. and Apple are referred to as being from Cupertino rather than America.
I'm A Lion, 15 Aug 2014Good.. But I don't like to buy product name for high price.. There are lots of top range phone... moreThere are quite a bit of difference between iPhone and Android. My 2 years old iPhone 5 is smoother than my 1 year old Note 3. Buy an iPhone for a month and test it side by side with an Android. See for yourself.
Wow, most Android fans don't even know how Gorilla Glass is made. Kinda explains why they are Android fans.
Gorilla Glass is just multiple layers of tempered glass layered together with plastic films in between and fluorite coating on top. Apple Sapphire Display replaces the top layer tempered glass with sapphire crystal while keeping rest of the formula the same. A 100x increase in scratch resistance while maintain the same weight and shatter resistant profile.
Hmm, we know this is the case for about a year now. IBM and Forbes calculated this is the only way GT Advance can produce sapphire at the quantity Apple want.
