Three (3) has its own 3G and 4G networks. It used to use Orange for 2G in areas where 3G was very weak, but I dont believe they do that anymore

The NETWORKS ARE
EE [which before the marriage was ORANGE & TMOBILE]
3 (AKA THREE)
3 is unique in that unlike the other UK networks has ONLY had 3G phones whereas all the other were 2G and with smartphones use increasing became 3G then HSDPA and now 4G
All other UK network ( uk simcards are MNVO, (v stands for virtual) MNVO effectively rents a block of phone numbers from "real" networks
Virgin is a MVNO (MNVO lease and do NOT own physical assets)
Richrd Bransons Virgin is therefore PLANE TRAINS & automobile? but definitely no mobile network)
Virgin uses EE, Tesco uses O2
There are sometimes cross arrangement so to avoid duplication of mast in REMOTE areas, if 3 has a mast EE customer in that area connect to 3 before reconnceting to the EE network and 3 in an area serviced only by EE similar
3 & EE are as separate as Kevin Bacon and the 8 year old girl who does 3 adverts
