it's a CHOICE people! why are you so mad at this. of course it won't match a compact phone, it won't have the support, hell it ain't even gonna look that good. but why do you care? it's not like it's going to take over the entire market, it's just an option.
perhaps in the future, one will be able to change parts that come from the same company and who knows, maybe they will be under a case or smth so it doesn't ruin the looks.
stop being so negative, nobody's telling you to change your phone, or phone form factor

we'd see, Ara will hold the future ,... moreBetter off wishing for modular laptop or tablet.
You can't hotswap central procesor unit? It is useless. Why you cannot just add CPU reserve, like for the battery?

we'd see, Ara will hold the future ,unless another company buy it & destroy it,
can't you guys understand?
with Ara no company tells you what to buy,
is that hard to understand?
getting what you want , not what they want to sell.
of course not everyone is brave enough to make decisions for themselves.
thanks GSMARENA , we are waiting for further infos.
Even with the regular phone, when only one combination of hardware needs to be tested, and optimized the final product usually still have efficiency and compatibility issue.
Think about it..why we don't have fully modular laptop or tablet.
A modular phone system has too much compromises and limitations.
Too good to be true
AnonD-214913, 30 Sep 2014People like you still live in caves. I welcome every new technology wheather i like it or not. It's nothing new as idea.
It's just a scrappy thing that people know it's way inferior to the integrated phone.
You are the one who is thinking completely backward.
MODULAR phone compromises on everything.
Compactness, durability, efficiency, future support, style, compadability of software and hardware.

You may think you can build a better phone than phone manufactures offer, but you can't.
Think about it.even if ara give you all the latest modular components and your ara phones spec matches the latest flagship, the high end parts will perform at a low efficiency and be unstable.

What an useless concept.
We already have phone that packs every single feature.and also customizable.and low cost.
It sounds like fun to select specific combination but you can't have a phone that's near as compact, slick, smooth, stable, update friendly, durable as a regular phone.

And that's exactly why we replace them so often. We're never satisfied. So that's EXACTLY what we need. Well those of us who don't care about image. The rest will keep buying crappy iPrones and galaxies
Anonymous, 30 Sep 2014obviously it is storage memory...How is that different from non-Ara phones which have hot swappable microSD cards?
AnonD-305201, 30 Sep 2014Do you think Google will offer such a feature without an implementation plan? They are much sm... moreWell, if they are speaking about the RAM, it's impossible to replace the modules without hibernating (like windows currently does), which isn't really "hot swappable", if it's storage, well, how is that different than current phones where you can replace the microSD card? and BTW, you'll obviously need a separate drive for the OS for that to be possible
Anonymous, 30 Sep 2014That's not what Ram is, but storage, and you can already do this with removable storage medium... moreSo it's obviously not a hot new feature
cellphones are getting dirt cheap. we replace them every two years or so because technology moves so fast and the next gen phones gets even cheaper. there's no market for aria type phones.
I won't get this for one reason. What if my son decides to build a tower out of it. And pieces go missing. Not child proof is it.
AnonD-314002, 30 Sep 2014U can carry as many battery modules as u can, no need to turn off the phone even to change bat... moreChanging batteries still isn't good enough. You have to have the option for a big enough battery(es?) so you won't need to think about it through the day
