EU welcomes the microUSB as a standard phone charger socket

it would have been just as good for the standard NOKIA 2mm plug to have been adopted ...since it's probably the most reliable and easy to use plug in the world. (BUT only good for charging)
On the other hand, since standard micro-usb has the possibility of multi-functionality (charging, data, usb, audio, etc) it's even better (potential-wise)... BUT ONLY if it means a multi-functional socket on the phone !
the only (small) problem would be caused by usage in time ...hopefully reliable enough ... as in not to repeat the old Samsung/S-E problem (after a while plugs and connectors would get weak, mallfunction or break)

Looks like you people can`t see behind this new rule. Let me explain:
The enswer is in car makers and other compatible device makers decision to fully support the iPhone in their new cars. That is because they can not make docking stations for every model since they all have differnt connections so they choose the one which will more likely dominate the US and EU market. That is the iPhone.
Now Nokia and the others has come to the conclusion that they must unite and give an alternative posability to the carmakers so that they can make docking stations for the biggest share of the market which is Nokia+Samsung+LG+everybody else but Apple.
So you see this is basicly a response to the iPhone as well. Of course clever politicians in the EU will take the credit for themselves but everybody who has a little bit more brain and imagination will see the real couse.
So, here is another thing we can thank to the iPhone!

In the interest of convenience and the environment (u dont have to buy many cnargers) this is a great step.
Make dual sim mandatory on smart phones and rates will come down .... Number portability and this will make the market really competitive

Noooo... How can they do that ?! The miniUSB should be used for every device for charging and data transfer, microUSB sucks...

Apple will never control EU. If Apple wouldn't accept these terms, then they could forget EU market.
PS. When did you had that dream that Apple controls 50% of market? Apple doesn't hanlde even a 10% :D :D :D
Grow up kiddie :D

Good idea. And yes, 3.5mm and memory cards next. Well done EU! I just noticed I have too many cables and chargers around...
@Steve: LOL, Apple sold like 10-15 million phones and for example Nokia sold over a billion so far, and then there's other makers too. I think iPhones should be standardized to Nokia's BL-5C battery (3 dollars on eBay).
