Wow, this is really a good news. I have one Sony Ericsson charger and earphone and two data cables, two Siemens charger and serial data cable which I don't and probably won't use again. This is good to hear in the future there won't be such waste. Thanks to miniUSB of Toshiba G500 I will be able to use its cables in the future. :D

> In reply to Anonymous @ 2009-06-29 16:53 from mqygThe iPod/iPhone 30 pin dock connector is a lot more than a charging socket and does more than USB can support, component video out for one thing.

I can already charge my iPhone using mini USB via my spare battery, so all it needs is an adapter in the box which will add more rather than less.

Of course it already charges from a USB port which the existing charger is based on so a standard micro or mini USB cable will already charge other phone's.

All it needs is one or two extra cables and an adapter...

...I thought this was supposed to mean less things will be needed, not more, those whacky Europeans Laws have done it again

I think it's good, with the only issue being Apple's as it is so popular, though Nokia have a similar issue too with how much accessories will become pointless. These things have to be done though, as in 4 - 5 years time it will be a much easier world.

it's good, but what you can do when microusb socket is for signal output and you have to listen music and charge the mobile at the same time. I have for real this problem with Lg viewty, Nok 6500 clasic, and there are many more, especially korean ones. Very few mobiles have 2,5/3,5 mm standard audio jack and microusb data/charge port

apple cant dump the socket they've used all these years, as mentioned it would make millions of accessories redundant!

how hard would it be to squeeze a micro-usb port next to the existing one? im no engineer :)

this is good news, I'm quite surprised that Apple has signed the agreement!
I wonder what they are going to do!? Their charger/data transfer cable is quite famouse!!!

I am so relieved though, this should have been done YEARS ago!
