Anonymous, 18 Oct 2014I was in China earlier...an iphone6 is about $5500, a restaurant manager monthly salary there ... moreI've been in Southern China for almost 10 years and your numbers couldn't be more wrong. Factory workers in the south can make 2800 RMB a month and a restaurant manager can make anywhere from 2-4x that depending on the location and class of restaurant. Even a secretary for a decent company can make around 3000-5000 RMB. Rent varies on the market and location but again in 2nd or 3rd tier cities the Chinese rent places for as little as RMB 500 per month and the sky's the limit. Important to note most lower income people here (like factory workers) will have meals and accommodation provided hence no need to buy food or rent their own place so they can save 90% of their monthly salary quite easy.
The official Apple Store price of the iPhone 6 here starts it at 5288 RMB but before importers were bringing them in from HK and reselling starting at around 6500 or 7500 RMB for a 6 Plus but prices have now fallen now that it's been official launched here.

What worries me these days is how GSMArena twists good news for Apple as bad, and always manage to put a positive spin on bad news for Samsung. It used to be so famous for being unbiased. Sad to see it become sensationalist in its headings.

glenn, 18 Oct 201420M is exaggerated. Only to get attention. Poor apple, i think chinese become inteligent this year."The orderly rollout was likely thanks to Apple's pre-order system, which assigns customers a designated pickup time on launch day, thereby preventing massive crowds and scalping. Also a factor were a midnight iPhone 6 and 6 Plus launches at third-party resellers, which included outlets serving China's major wireless carriers."
I think it's Apple that got smart this year, with a wider net launch making iPhones available at more outlets including carrier outlets.
glenn, 18 Oct 201420M is exaggerated. Only to get attention. Poor apple, i think chinese become inteligent this year.Lol it's not exaggerated, but other articles explained it better.
1. Apple Stores opened at 8am but this year, the iphone 6 was also available at carrier outlets, which opened at midnight.
2. This year, many bought through pre-orders, avoiding the massive queues of previous years. More convenient.
I was in China earlier...an iphone6 is about $5500, a restaurant manager monthly salary there is only $2800. Rent is about $1000 to 2500 depends on where u live. How do u think people in Chinese would want a phone that expensive

"iPhone 6 Sales in China Set New Record Despite 'Low-Key' Launch"
It looks like that yes, iPhone is more popular in China than ever before, it looks like chinese people waited the big iPhones.

Chinese don't buy iPhones to show off anymore, they realise iPhones are no better built than their flagships, and IOS is kids play compare to android, and it cost much more.
many many units of iphone 6 and 6+ have been shipped from US and Hong Kong to China, why need to lineup, when they already have one.
[deleted post]how exceedingly odd. maybe you should take a break and disconnect from the net for a few days. your level of excitedment and enthusiasm on display, given how many replies you've made to this news alone, seems to be geting the better of you.
case in point: nowhere in my message did i state, argue, or even imply, cantonese people being inferior.
if you re-read, i'm stating that your view on the hong kong cantonese people not selecting android phones primarily stemming from their high levels of IQ and a comparatively much less restricted app store to their mainland counterparts is inaccurate.
so again. maybe take a break, ok?
heynekko, 18 Oct 2014Most of them already got their iphone shipped from the US. Go figureMore like most if the got their phones from the carriers 8 hours earlier. Seriously, does anyone here bother to read the article these days? The carriers had special midnight openings to sell this.
May be that 20 million is exagerated. It obious that is only a gimmick on my opinion.
May 20 milliion chinese people have iphone 5s but they will change it to iphone 6 for almost 1 year of usage. Especially to expensive the price of this new iphone.
On my opinion better the consumer or fans othis iphone will not buy immediately so that apple will obligate to lower there price. Always in the mind of apple company no matter what price they tag the ifans will try to afford it. Ifans should organize to wait until the iphone lowered there price. Ifans should not debating or depending to other phone so that iphone will confuse and lower there price. Ifans is the beneficiary once the iphone lowered there price.
Seriously. If I am in China I had rather buy xiaomi, huawei, or meizu phones which all priced much more cheaper than iphone. From most review I read their quality difference is only a bit lower than iphone.
Most of them already got their iphone shipped from the US. Go figure
Anomynous, 18 Oct 2014Yeah you wish, they move out of their fastest growing market ahaha.
What do you know about ... moreNot until they can stop the corruption in Philippines. All the OWF money is pouring into the pockets and lost externally again.. they are supposed to have up trend in 2015.. now still declining.
And I bet with you nearly all of them like iPhones there,
The only reason you do not see them carrying it around, is because the country's people are so poor and staving that they steal iPhones on sight.. that fear so everyone hid their iPhones.
