If the caller's name doesn't come on even though you've programmed it, you've got the settings wrong! Under the 'multiphonebook' feature, set it to NORMAL PHONEBOOK.

There's nothing wrong with the caller ID of the phone, you just have to accordingly.

Hi, I want to use this phone in the United States, but it looks like the frequencys are not for the US. Are Nokia going to put out a tri, or even quad band version, or at the very least another dual band that does 850/1900? I would really like this to replace my faithful 1100 (cingular branded), because of the calender and speakerphone (both killer features I kinda really need), and the brighter flashlight. It is either this, or a refurb Nokia 5140 or 5140i. I only need a durable, cheap phone with a speakerphone, a calender, and a flashlight (though that last one is a nobility feature, I like it). I don't need a color screen, camera, bluetooth, or all that other crap. Though I like the compass, and the thermometer on the 5140/i, 16 day battery life is impressive, and my BL-5C in the 1100 is down to about 4 days of life under my usage, I used to get 9-10 days. The battery cover also has an ever growing crack, and instead of investing in a new cover and battery, I would rather get a phone that has the features I need. And yes, I prefer the monochromatic screens.

Any thoughts?

I have just bought a Nokia 1200. The caller's name does not come on the screen and that makes it very inconvenient. It is shocking that nokia has overlooked the importance of it.

You may be having problems with the multiphonebook feature- this new feature allows several users to share the same phone with their own individualized phonebooks.

You may have accidentally tuned into one of those other phonebooks. I did the same while meddling with the phone! To remedy, go to 'contacts,' then ''settings' then 'multiphone book' and click phonebookstyle 'normal.'

I think this is quite a confusing feature. How many people these days actually share a phone, I have no idea... If you are a lone user, turn off the multiphonebook, just use the phonebook style 'normal.' Hope this helps.

I bought this phone 2 weeks ago as a 2nd phone. I mostly use this phone for messaging as I use to msg a lot and my N73 is too slow for messaging and the keypad is also a bit uncomfortable. Nokia 1200 is quite good in messaging. Responce is fast and keypad is also comfortable. The message storage is less ( only 60 sms) although the phone has 4MB memory which is vacant all the time as the phone doesnt have GPRS or any other storage input source. so they should have given more memory to Messaging.
I have bought this mobile in Mobile zone guarantee(Pakistan) and the problem is that it has came from india so urdu is not available as a writing language. Moreover calender is also messed up with hindi events and occations which is really really pathetic. Mobile zone should do something about this. The phone also have some software bugs but as someone already said that they are very minor and do not effect the functionality of phone. Upgraded firmwares will solve those buggs.
The charging also lasts for a long time.Flash light quite powerful and better than my N73. Call history can save 5 latest missed calls came from the same number. Same is valid for dialled and received numbers. Quite useful feature which was absent in Nokia 1110 & 1112 models. As the use to overwrite the previous missed calls when a new missed call comes from the same number.
Overall a really nice phone. Durable & reliable. Nokia is the best in low price handsets as well as expensive ones.

if the caller name doesn't appear even if it is in your directory list, chances are there are 2 entries in yuor phone directory with either the same name or same number.

umm well i like it, i have 3 cheap phones including this one and (1)expensive one for display =P - what me liked most about this phone is- the battery last longer than other phones (specially those colored ones), very light, keypads are great (fast and easy) and no big deal when losing it =D specially if you're from phil. "mandurukots"/snatchers are everywhere.
